Even though I hate the anime, I just can't stop listening to Kakegurui's opening, Deal With The Devil by Tia.

Another Representative, Kurt Schrader, has agreed that Congress should be docked pay whenever the US gov't shutsdown! See -> https://www.change.org/p/dock-congressional-pay-when-government-shuts-down/responses/41782 If you haven't already, sign the Change.org petition. Don't let Congress get away with this injustice!

The issue of Congress members getting paid when they have caused a temporary gov't shutdown while other federal workers are not paid is not the most crazy one that I've heard of, grandsword. Did you know that Congress members can vote themselves a generous pay raise (How does a 40% raise in annual salary sound to you?) so long as two-thirds of them agree that they "Deserve it" in a vote (Even though most Americans [~60%] polled, disagree)? See article dated in 1989 -> https://www.heritage.org/budget-and-spending/report/congress-vs-america-how-congress-raises-its-own-pay. Yes, that article is old but trust me. That practice is still going on to this day!

My case in point - Here is an update on that issue: Representative John R. Curtis has responded to Change.org and has said that he agrees with the docking of Congressional pay (See -> https://www.change.org/p/dock-congressional-pay-when-government-shuts-down/responses/41765)! I guess that you could hear a few heads in Congress suddenly rise up from their feeding troughs and squeal in shock when he responded!

That may be true, grandsword but also remember that the Congress members that are up for re-election cannot just ignore the people who had originally voted them into office wihout the risk of losing their future votes and ultimately their re-election. Also, the Congress members whose terms are already at the maximum allowed limit and are thus on their way out of office either way, would want to end their career on a "High note" by "Doing the right thing in the eyes of the people." as [recorded] "History does not forget". The only Congress members who would naturally oppose such legislation would be the ones who are in the beginning or the middle of their term in office and thus stand to lose the most financially. It's a "Mixed bag" of Congress members since they aren't all up for re-election or finish their office terms at the same time!
