As for the headcannon... er, that's a little dark for My Little Pony, don't you think? (For that matter, I can't see Fluttershy using magic, or fighting with swords. Plus, if she can fight and has confidence, why was she scared by the attack?)

No, but Rainbow Dash easily proved her element of Harmony more than anypony else in the pilot. Think about it: Applejack had absolutely no reason to lie, Rarity's tail *would* grow back, Pinkie Pie laughs at everything, it wasn't even a test, Fluttershy dealt with creatures like that frequently (including bears, lions, etc.) And all Twilight did was go along for the ride.
Meanwhile, Rainbow literally gave up her life dream which she had worked her entire life for.
A bit of a discrepancy there. (Also, she can literally bend light by going so fast.)
As for the plot... eh, it's okay. What's the head cannon you are referring to?
