Sheetz is generally okay as long as people have bought stuff and are well behaved. However we do have a 1 hour time limit for the most part. As an off-duty employee, I've been doing studies at a different location than the one I work for and I stayed like 3 hours talking with employees and only bought a small meal.

If I can get the funding to start a business of my own where we all work together that would be the best way for me personally. I feel that we would all be more motivated to work if we were being paid to do it and had to show up to somewhere that isn't our homes. I know I am a lazy little girl when I get off my regular job but if I had to go somewhere that wasn't my house to work on my game design work I would likely have the platformer game done by now in Processing. I just need the money to start a business.

Sorry about that. I guess the issue I have is that I have work that I do and not at all times will I be able to come out here and reply. But I'll get to it right now. And I fixed the MLP post.

I do absolutely know those. We used to sell them at Sheetz. Sadly they are no longer offered at Sheetz but Walmart sells them so I can always find my fix when I am in the mood for those amazing cookies!

The idea of doing the "free to play" beta idea is to pique interest in the game, and curiosity may lead to reviews. Those reviews can be used to make the game more fun, more challenging, and more streamlined in terms of controls and what your goal is. Using feedback to essentially "perfect" a concept to make a game that people will want to pay like $10 or so for to get their copy. If I do everything myself, obviously I could get by with only charging like $10 for it. If I get others involved, however, I may need to charge like $20-$30 so I can afford to pay them.

Thanks for letting me know. I just got confused on ACF's post in the MLP: Three words game for a bit.

I greatly appreciate it honey! I intend to make the platformer I am designing in Processing free to play as it will be insanely short and will not have many of the bells and whistles of a true game. Thus, having a free-to-play concept on Steam or something of that nature allows people to see if they would even like something with the unique twist on platform games that I am adding. If they like it, cool, they can back it on Patreon or Kickstarter so I can have the funding to gather people to help on the final project. I will handle programming and have someone design graphics, possibly ask my friends to help with music (as they are signed to a record label) and I can do sound effects. Outside that, maybe release a beta with only one or two levels available to get feedback on controls and such before the final game is released. It'll be a rather interesting concept to try, for sure. I have never seen a platform game done quite the way I am intending to do one. But as I said previously, I do need to keep specifics quiet until I am ready to actually release a beta of the game.

I use Kaspersky for my desktop and laptop. I don't have a lot of money so I can't afford multiple licenses every year.

As for a formal school... technically? I studied Graphic Design at Pittsburgh Technical Institute for 1 year, changed majors because I liked the coding aspect of web design. During my time as a web design student one of my instructors introduced me to Processing. I have taught myself everything else from where he left off. He taught the basics, I had a team of me and two other students using an older version of Processing, as this was 2011-2012, and we designed a game. I helped develop the sound output, score counter, text and beta test while the other two worked more on the graphics and input methods.

I have a platformer that I have been working on for a few months now using ONLY Processing code. There is not a single image file for any graphics. So yeah the graphics are mostly just geometric shapes, it is still a way to have a rough idea of a game that allows me to learn the fundamentals of the game design process. Sure it would look better to have a degree for sure, but a lot of indie developers don't have degrees. I prove how passionate I am about game design by teaching it to myself. I feel like that goes further than a piece of paper from a school ever can.
