Empress Poppaea Sabina, the second wife of Emperor Nero, was growing concerned for her husband. Recently, he seemed to have been overcome with bouts of insanity, which compelled him to do some rather cruel and vicious things. She was wondering what she could do to stop him before he did something unforgivable.

At this moment, he was pacing, clearly in the midst of some kind of mad passion.

Poppaea approached him cautiously and asked "What is on your mind, my love?"

"Rome is a fetid pool of intrigue. A nest of poisonous vipers ready to do me in at any moment."

Poppaea was compelled to contradict her husband, but she knew doing so would have been futile. It was obvious he was deaf to reason. She would have to resort to more drastic means.

As Nero kept on pacing and wallowing in his paranoia, Poppaea began to check on her one and only child, Claudia Augusta.

She was asleep in her bassinet, blissfully unaware of her father's unstable nature and demeanor.

"At least you'll always be the best part of our union." She leaned over and kissed her forehead.

The baby girl stirred awake at that, and she smiled up at her mother, giggling cutely.

"Hello there, little one," Poppaea said to Claudia.

She babbled a little in response, lifting up her arms, as though she wished to be picked up.

Poppaea smiled and felt her diaper.

She was absolutely soaked, and more than a little messy.

"Ewwww, you certainly need a change."

She giggled at her mother's reaction as she was carried to the changing table.

Poppaea undid her diaper and wiped her with a wet rag.

Claudia Augusta giggled and wiggled her toes. She seemed so happy and carefree.

This got her mother thinking. As she fastened a new diaper, she felt one of them in her hands.

They were indeed rather soft and comfortable. Such a garment could perhaps instill a calming feeling on anyone who wore it, regardless of age.

Poppaea smiled and made her way over to Nero, knowing his rants would tire him out fairly soon.

She also brought along a handful of loyal servants to assist her. Nero did indeed let out a loud yawn as his wife approached.

"Come to bed, dear. You always feel better in the morning."

"Very well," he said grudgingly, allowing himself to be led to the bedchamber.

Poppaea led Nero and they were soon under the covers. Thankfully, it always took very little time for him to fall asleep, and he was quite the heavy sleeper, giving the servants and opening.

The chief butler, Remus, and the head maid, Aquila, came forward with some changing supplies, which included some rather thick cloth diapers. They carefully undressed their emperor as he slept.

Poppaea smiled as she then diapered him.

"I would suggest that you consider keeping him restrained, as well, Your Majesty," Remus proposed, "Until such time as the Emperor comes to his senses, someone of sound mind should be governing his place."

"You're quite right," Poppaea said. "Who do you suggest?"

[AJbestpony]

"You would likely be our most promising contender," Aquila proposed. "But we would highly recommend Marcus Vinicius. He is a seasoned general with unwavering loyalty to Rome and the Empire. You might also consult with Petronius. He is one of Nero's closest friends."

"I will talk things over with them, certainly."

"Very good," said Remus, "In the meantime, I will fetch some restraints for His Eminence."

Nero was soon shackled to the bedposts.

"There we go," Aquila commented, making sure the bonds were tight, but not too tight. "Is there anything further you require, my lady?"

She smiled a bit. "Maybe I could wear a diaper myself."

"As you wish, Your Excellency," Aquila said happily, undressing her mistress completely and laying her onto her back.

She smiled up at the head maid and giggled a little.

Aquila smiled and powdered her mistress thoroughly, before pinning a nice, thick diaper around her loins. "There we are. You actually look quite adorable, my lady."

"Thank you, Aquila. Hmmm, maybe we should also try to get my husband involved in raising our daughter, instead of fobbing everything off on you and me."

"That would be an excellent idea," Aquila said in approval, "We could start by having Claudia Augusta sleep with you in bed."

She nodded and, clad only in her nappy, went to bring her over.

The servants and guards on the way to the nursery bowed to their empress respectfully. They did not seem the least bit perturbed about her current getup. Compared to the madness of their emperor, this was fairly normal.

She smiled and scooped up Claudia Augusta. "You're sleeping with Mommy from now on."

The baby girl smiled and clapped her hands, as though she understood her mother.

Poppaea carried her to the bedchamber and snuggled with her. "Sleep well, Claudia Augusta. May the gods bless you."

The baby girl smiled up at her mother, and she swiftly fell asleep.

It was the sweetest slumber they'd had yet.

When Nero woke up the following morning, the first thing he noticed was that he could not move his arms or legs.

"Good morning," Poppaea said curtly.

Nero glared at his wife and said grimly "Poppaea... what is going on?"

"An idea to save you from yourself. I fear you are treading down a path that will lead to calamity. I want you to be at peace."

(Dinner is about ready. See you tomorrow)

"I'll be at peace as soon as I purify this city of its filth!" Nero muttered through gritted teeth, struggling in his bonds. He had yet to realize his state of dress.

Poppaea sighed a little. "For some time now, you've been in a state of distress. It's not normal."

"The only distress I'm in is the situation you've placed me in!" Nero barked angrily, struggling again. "I demand to be released at once!"

"I'm afraid I can't do that. With a temporary ruler in your stead, the demands of being Emperor will stop pushing down on you so hard," Poppaea said. "What I do, I do out of love."

Nero was still vehemently against what was happening. It was obvious he would not see reason any time soon. Remus stepped forward with a length of cloth and said "Perhaps His Eminence should be gagged, as well, my lady."

"Probably." She tied it around him, then went over to Claudia Augusta. "I'll also let you know that our daughter is sleeping with us from now on. And a real father learns how to care for their children."

Nero muffled through his gag, attempting to protest his predicament once more. However, as deranged as he may have been, he did realize that he had been shirking his responsibilities as a father. As cruel as he may have appeared to be, he still loved his wife and daughter dearly.

She smiled a little and carried Claudia Augusta out the room, hoping some time to reflect would be good. Besides, she needed to find someone to rule in Nero's place.

"Who would you like to visit first, my lady?" Aquila asked as she and her subordinates dressed the empress, "Petronius or Marcus Vicinius?"

"Petronius first," she said, smiling at that.

"As you say," Remus acknowledged, "I do believe he is at his home at present."

Poppaea smiled at her outfit.

"You look gorgeous, as ever, Your Excellency," Aquila proclaimed with a grin.

"Thank you." She kept ahold of her daughter and got in the chariot.

The chariot soon made its way to Petronius' estate.

Poppaea smiled widely as she approached.

[AJbestpony]

"Good morning to you, my empress," the loyal Roman politician declared, taking a knee and kissing Poppaea's hand.

She smiled. "I have something very important to share. My husband is indisposed, and Rome needs someone to run her in the meantime."

[AJbestpony]

After Petronius regained his feet, he solemnly nodded his head. "As a faithful subject of the empire, I shall devote myself to ruling until the emperor has recovered."

"Are you sure you wish to? I was also going to approach Marcus Vincius about the possibility."

[AJbestpony]

"An excellent proposal, all the same," Petronius stated, "Marcus Vicinius can be trusted with all matters pertaining to war and diplomacy, whereas all tasks which concern governing can be left to me."

Poppaea nodded and bounced Claudia Augusta quite happily.

Petronius giggled and tickled the baby girl's chin. "She is just so adorable, my lady."

"Thank you," Poppaea said. "She's the best part of my life."

"I know precisely what you mean," said Petronius, "My own children are everything to me."

She smiled and went to call in on them.

His daughters Cardea and Vesta and his son Tatius were in the study with his wife, Lucretia.

Lucretia kissed him tenderly and smiled as she picked up the children.

"How did you get to be so strong, Mommy?" Tatius asked. He was the youngest of the three, but he was nearing his thirteenth birthday.

"I have lots of practice," she said, chuckling. She turned to Poppaea. "Welcome, Empress."

The Empress smiled and made her way over to Lucretia, hugging her warmly. "It's been too long."

"You seem just as proud of these children as I am."

[AJbestpony]

"I am," Poppaea claimed, looking down at Claudia Augusta, "It's my hope that this little one grows up to be like them."

Lucretia giggled as Vesta climbed on her, and she lifted her dress.

Lucretia removed her dress altogether, and she brought her younger daughter up to her breast, urging her to latch on.

She smiled and suckled hungrily. Poppaea chuckled. It was no secret that many of the nobles loved to baby their children past infancy.

As Vesta was nursed, Petronius went ahead and checked Cardea and Taitus' nappies.

They both were extremely messy.

Petronius did not mind at all. He just carried them over to the changing table, and he laid down Taitus first.

Taitus giggled as his messy diaper was unpinned.

"You're a smelly boy, aren't you?" his father remarked in amusement, cleaning him up.

Tatius giggled as he was wiped.

It only took his father a couple minutes to have him powdered and pinned into a fresh diaper. He then turned to Cardea.

She sucked her thumb as she was tended to.

"No wonder you've got so many gentleman callers," Petronius commented as he cleaned her up thoroughly.

Cardea giggled. "So many men want to take care of me."

"I'm not surprised at all," Lucretia remarked as she burped Vesta, "Are there any in particular that you've taken a liking to?"

Vesta belched loudly. "Well, there's this one man I really love to visit."

"Excuse you," Lucretia said in amusement. "Tell us more," Petronius requested, powdering and rediapering his elder daughter.

Cardea smiled. "Well, apparently he's one of the richest men in Rome, and he has been babied by his loving mother. His name is Prospero."

"I would be most eager to meet him," said Petronius. "As would I," Lucretia added in. "So would I," Poppaea admitted, "His mother might be able to give me some advice on how to handle my husband."

Cardea smiled a bit. "Well, you're in luck. I was called over to see him today."

"Then, what say we prepare for an excursion?" Lucretia suggested merrily.

"That's a great idea." Everyone went to get ready.

"As it happens, Marcus Vicinius' house is just a little past Prospero's house," Cardea revealed. "Then we'll be sure to stop there after our visit."

They moved through the streets to Prospero's estate.

Prospero was currently being bathed by his loving mother, Ulpia.

"You certainly deserve only the best, my son."

[AJbestpony]

"That's why I have you, Mommy," he said with a smile, standing up so she could scrub more effectively.

Ulpia giggled at that and bared her breasts for him.

After he was dried, he latched onto her nipple and suckled eagerly.

Ulpia hummed a sweet lullaby. She was doing this when their guests arrived.

"I'm just fine," she replied, "If only I could say the same of the Emperor. The Empress has deemed it necessary to relieve him of his duties forcefully. Until he regains his senses, my father will be assisting her with ruling the empire."

Prospero smiled. "Well, this is definitely good news. It will certainly improve your standing."

"Indeed it shall," she conceded, reaching around and patting Prospero's thickly diapered posterior.

He giggled and kissed Cardea again. "Anything I can do for you?"

"How about you and I go lounge out on the balcony?" she proposed. "Alone."

He nodded and they sauntered on out.

She sighed as they lounged together on a couch, cuddled in each other's arms. "Lovely day."

"It sure is," Prospero said. "Just like you."

She smiled and kissed his cheeks, chin, forehead, and lips in rapid succession.

He chuckled at that and smiled. "I had a dream about you last night."

[AJbestpony]

"Oh?" she said in interest, leaning closer, "I'd love to know what it was about."

[toxic34]

"It was you and me, surrounded by our families, and lots of children."

[AJbestpony]

Her smile widened. "I certainly wouldn't mind if that dream ultimately became a reality."

[toxic34]

Prospero smiled. "My mother wants a lot of grandchildren soon."

[AJbestpony]

"So does mine," Cardea admitted, "Even though she herself is not even 40 yet."

[toxic34]

They chuckled at that. "She definitely looks like she could pass for 17."

"She would be flattered to hear you say that," she stated, nuzzling his head.

Prospero smiled as they snuggled together.

Nurse him, bathe him, change his diapers, spend time with him. And, when the situation calls for it, relieve him of stress."

"Would you say that's the secret to why Prospero turned out to be such a good boy?" Poppaea asked with a smile.

"Oh, absolutely," Ulpia asserted, "I've babied him all his life. He's never gone more than a day without me at his side."

Prospero was still spooning Cardea as his mother came over to his side.

Ulpia grinned widely at the sight and sat down beside them, kissing both their foreheads.

Ulpia smiled kindly at the girl who would soon be her daughter-in-law.

Cardea kissed back, then turned to Vesta.

"We look forward to it," said Taitus, wrapping an arm around both his sisters.

After their nap, they all headed out to call on Marcus Vincius.

The renowned Roman general was lounging with his Christian wife, Lygia. She was heavy with child at this time.

She smiled. "It's a pleasure to see you all."

"Likewise, my lady," Poppaea said with a smile, embracing the Christian woman.

"I am confident that it will be a son," Lydia said.

"I wish you all the best in raising him," said Poppaea, "Have you decided on a name for him yet?"

"I have," Lydia said. "Naxos."

[AJbestpony]

Poppaea smiled and nodded her approval. "A strong name for a strong boy."

"So, what brings you here, Empress?"

[AJbestpony]

She explained the situation with her husband, and how she needed reliable and loyal men helping her to rule Rome in his stead until he recovered from his insanity. "Petronius will help me to govern, but I will need a soldier in all matters related to war and diplomacy."

"Then you can depend on me, Empress."

[AJbestpony]

She grinned at his response. It was just what she had been hoping for. "In the meantime, all your families are welcome to stay at the palace until further notice."

Everyone was quite happy at that. Together, they returned to the palace.

Nero was still chained and gagged to his bed. He seemed to have used his nappy at least once, as well.

"Oh, you poor thing," Poppaea said. "You know what you need? A bath."

Nero seemed to have calmed down by now. He was not fully in his right mind just yet, but at least he was not as defiant.

He whimpered and cuddled close to her, as though he was afraid to be separated from his wife.

"Shhh, it's all right. I'll never leave you."

He smiled at that and kissed her tenderly. "Claudia Augusta? Where is she?"

"She's right here." Remus came in, holding her. "She's going to bathe with you."

Nero smiled and carefully took his daughter from his chief butler. He cuddled her close and lovingly.

She giggled and hugged her father.

Soon, the Empress removed her husband's messy diaper, undressed her daughter, and put them both into the tub.

Claudia Augusta gurgled cutely as Nero fawned over her.

Nero helped his wife with washing their daughter. "So, how goes Rome?"

"Everything is fine," Poppaea said. "She's in safe hands."

"I'm relieved to hear that," Nero stated, "That will give me more time to focus on you and our baby girl."

Poppaea nodded and kissed him. "That would be lovely."

After the bath was finished, the emperor and his daughter were helped out of the tub and dried off.

Poppaea diapered them both, then dressed them.

Once they were dressed, Nero asked "So, what shall we do now?"

"Well, what would be some good family time?"

"Perhaps we could read a scroll to Claudia Augusta," Nero suggested.

"That sounds lovely." She brought one out.

The subject of the scroll was about the civilizations of Greece and Egypt, and a mysterious figure which brought them together.

"Hmm, this Woman in Purple seems quite intriguing."

[AJbestpony]

"Indeed," Nero agreed, snuggling with his wife and daughter, "I'd be eager to learn more about her."

Poppaea smiled at that and chuckled as Claudia Augusta farted.

"I'll handle this," said Nero, taking his daughter from his wife and taking her over to a changing table.

Claudia Augusta babbled as she was laid down to be changed.

Nero undid his daughter's nappy and began to wipe her up thoroughly.

She sucked her thumb as she was wiped.

"You are so adorable," he cooed, tickling her feet as he powdered her.

She giggled and stared into Nero's eyes.

"She is rather intelligent for her age, is she not?" Nero commented to his wife.

"She certainly is," Poppaea said.

He smiled at her. "Have you thought about giving her a sibling?"

[toxic34]

"I would love to give her one," she said. "In fact, I'd love to give her many."

"As would I," he declared, "What say we work on that later today?"

Poppaea giggled. "I'm very ripe for the taking."

He smirked at that, and then he sat down beside his wife and snuck a hand under her dress.

She giggled. "Do you like, Nero?"

"I certainly do," he replied, bringing his hand to the front of Poppaea's diaper and beginning to rub sensually.

Marcus Vincius nodded. "He will grow up well taken care of."

"I am pleased to hear such conviction, General," Nero stated, "Fatherhood is a blessing and the greatest of responsibilities. At long last, I have realized that."

He looked over at Petronius, who was also smiling.

Prospero then stood up with Cardea, his hand in hers. "We have an announcement, as well. We're engaged!"

Everyone else applauded at that.

After the applause died down, Nero decided to propose a toast.

They all stood at attention for the toast.

"To the Empire!" Nero announced, "And to people such as you, who allow it to thrive and flourish! But most of all... to family!"

They nodded and enjoyed their wine.

After dinner, everyone retreated to the lounge, where they laid about on the floor and talked about recent events in their lives.
