Perhaps some kind of mess-up during training while Mercy, Ana, and Pharah are training together (with three other characters), and Ana and Pharah get in one another's way or whatever, and then the plan ensues from there?

And what would spark the babying? Who would be first? Probably Pharah? Maybe they can make a deal, Ana and Mercy?

The only way I can see this happening is if we make the gameplay itself simply turn out to be a training simulation; the reason their fighting other versions of themselves is because their in a system that creates an artificial intelligents that pits itself against the other players, in order to learn to counter people of similar skill by learning literally by fighting themselves.
Or something like that. >w<

I didn't think we'd be doing the parts of the ACTUAL game, just the story aspects behind it. X3
Besides, I think Blizzard said the gameplay is actually non-canonical. Not that our RP is, but...I just assumed.
