As for the scenario, I think I like the second one with the backpack. Like maybe Blackfire notices that Raven has one of those metal character charms hanging from it and it's a Pretty Pretty Pegasus character, which causes her to get suspicious and then maybe, half accidentally, she pulls too hard on Raven's backpack and rips it like you said.
