I know who you're talking about. Mighty the Armadillo and Ray the Flying Squirrel. But in the games they weren't before Tails. Mighty and Ray's first appearance was SegaSonic the Hedgehog which came out in 1993. But Sonic 2 came out in 1992.

Who were his friends before Tails and the Freedom Fighters? And yes there were some people like that. The two people I'm talking about are a armadillo and a flying squirrel... What are they're names?

The comics and the games? The comics and the games have different origins so that's really vague. Plus, I don't know how many of them you want. Sonic's first friend in the games was Tails. As for the comics, the first issue had him with the Freedom Fighters. Tails was there but there was also Sally, Rotor, Bunnie, and Antione.

I remember that name. Again, it's only a name the comics used. Everywhere else his name has always been just Sonic. Still, it's hard remembering a name that long.

Sonic's real name is Sonic. At least in the games it is. As for the comics, they've always had their own continuity going so I suppose him having a different name isn't surprising. I heard it once but I don't remember it. I guess I fail this question.
