"Well, try it out on me!" Aria said, smiling to Duke. "Or...at least try to. I'm a Dark type, so it won't hurt me at all."

Aria nodded and let the disc play.

The TV became filled with hypnotic patterns and arcane symbols, along with wierd, though oddly pleasant noises that threatened to bring Duke into a trance. At first it seemed like nonsense, or worse, a hypnosis tape, but as things progressed, a tapestry began to unfold in Duke's mind, induced by numerous memetic devices that suddenly revealed certain aspects of reality, and more importantly, how to affect change upon it through force of will. The video ended after only five minutes, but at the end, Duke would understand how to use Psyshock.

"TM stands for Training Manual. My friend Force told me that in the old days, TMs used to be these magical tomes that...vanished after reading them, and they magically imprint the knowledge into your head. Nowadays, we just have video discs you can pop in, and you can learn a move, and use it as many times as you like!" She vanished from view for a second, the only sign of her passing being a gust of wind as she moved extremely quickly past him. She then returned quickly with a purplish disc in her hand. "Don't worry, it doesn't take long. Just get on the couch and i'll pop it into the TV."

((In-game, TM actually stands for Technical Machine, but it makes no sense to me whatsoever how they work. So I use this as my headcanon.))
