Lies aren't meant to help fix problems. Sometimes a lie is used as an attempt to help "Soften the blow" of a problem (e.g. - Check out the scene in James Cameron's Titantic (pos 1:06) where a poor Irish mother (Steerage passenger) tries to reassure her children that everything will be alright by telling them a bedtime story which ends "... Of course what I mentioned is an extreme case and things are not that bad with your problem. Anyway, perhaps things will work out for you later on. Just give it some time. You never know.
