As Baby-Bat wrapped her arms around Huntress’ midsection, her mind began to dip into an earlier encounter.

It was about two years ago now. Black Canary had been captured by a criminal known as Sacant, who would agree to free her in exchange for the location of the Bat cave, and his identity.

For obvious reasons, Oracle wasn’t about to let it happen, but that put Dinah in a long situation without guarantee of getting herself out.

So, Barbara bit her tongue and made a gamble of her contacts. Someone who she knew could raise a little hell.

“Huntress, don’t hang up-

The voice at the end was low, and understandably not very happy.

“Oracle. Let me guess. Batman’s orders? Keeping an eye on the black sheep? Because tell your boss that if he wants me, he can hunt me himself.”

There wasn’t a lot of love here. Complicated relations and a screw ups and over reactions didn’t make bffs.

“I’m not here about Batman. But Black Canary is in trouble. You and her are… friends. She’s mine too. We both don’t want to see an autopsy on the news.”

A pause. Barbara sighed, lowering the levels of her voice filter to let just a bit of her real voice flow through the receiver.

“Helena, please. Whatever feelings you have about me, Dinah’s innocent. I need you.”

A sigh.

“Some couple with delusions kidnapped someone’s baby. Help me with that? I’ll help you bust a canary’s cage.”

Oracle grinned, confidence returning to her features.

“Not a problem.”

Huntress and Oracle’s deal worked out perfectly. A baby returned to a smiling couple that called Huntress an angel, Black Canary liberated from restraints, and Savant sent underground with the constant blackmail over his head.

Even now. Years later, when things had changed so much, Barbara remembered something that Huntress had told her.

“You have my number. Use it smartly, and I might get used to it.”

Idea: What if Huntress counts to three to let Mary choose her decision and Mary makes it the count of two before bursting into desperate apologies and promising she won’t say anything.
