It was a nice stroll, walking beside Danny, pushing the stroller along with relative ease. "Oh, that sounds like an easy enough fix," Jo replied with ease, reassured that they wouldn't suddenly be seeing the world in orange. Admittedly, just leaving the room had fixed that issue... And the girl waved just as he did, frowning over the looks they got back. It was Daniel's asking after what to buy for Annie that pulled her back to responsibilities at hand. "That sounds like the safest decision. It can be tricky growing up." It was a brief chuckle to follow, when she glanced about the neighborhood. So many people just seemed to... stop. Stop and stare.
"Dan, they know I'm not a mom, right?" It wasn't anything major, but young mother's were a stigma that few people seemed to let go of, while she bit her lip. Jo had a habit of preferring to blend into the crowd, and a screaming child was no way to make certain she was observed with a lack of interest. |
Daniel shrugged. "They don't know yiu that well, but you're obviously with me and they know I'm no father." Chuckling a bit, he said, "I know what you're saying though. My parents say it's a miracle I'm not still in diapers, they had such a hard time with me."
Strolling into the store, he glanced around. "Swim diapers are this way, let's grab 'em," he said, as the cashier shot them a cautious look. Danny rolled his eyes, walking down the aisle with Joey. "What brand is best?" |
Jo wheeled the stroller carefully through the aisle, and with care, Daniel appeased her concerns about a premature motherhood. It was such a funny thing, trying to imagine the young man in diapers still and the woman couldn't help but giggle at the concept. "That's a weird thought, Daniel," Jo laughed, while she moved along the aisle. Glancing at the diapers, she couldn't help but blink.
"Daniel, do they look funny to you?" she inquired carefully, while leaning in on one of the packages of diapers, picking it up. The letters appeared jumbled, only the familiar logo identified it as a package of Huggies. "I think I remember Huggies being best. Let's just go with these." |
Daniel blinked, shaking his head. "No, not really," he said. He wasn't ever around diapers, so he just assumed that they all had really weird names. 'Luplsop' seemed to show up on a lot of the ones for bedwetters, and he had to wonder why... Also, what was this 'Pmaerps' company that seemed so popular? Oh well.
"I'll grab a package of normal ones too, I think we were low," he said, hefting it. Dang, diapers were heavier than he rembered... "Okay, the cashier is staring at us. Let's get put of here," he said, noticing a strange look from the cashier as she reached for her phone. Probably to spread gossip. |
It was a simple dilemma. Yet, when she pulled the package of swim diapers from the shelf Jo nearly dropped them! She managed to keep a hold on them, and dropped them into the basket below the stroller clumsily. It was pretty simple to expect, considering the difficulty she'd had. Down to the end of the aisle, and wheeling about, it was then that she noticed something even more odd.
There was a security guard, whispering into a radio, his gaze on the girl and the stroller. "Uh... Danny, let's go check out," Joey announced, biting her lip, pushing the stroller down the aisle. She made certain to hurry as best she could, despite the additional bizarre weight of a package of diapers. "C'mon!" She was attempting to make things look like she was excited, a beach vacation awaited at home! |
Daniel nodded, moving quickly to the cash register. Why was everything so damned heavy? Even pushing the stroller was a struggle. Getting to the cash register, it was all he could do to heave the two packages up on the counter and reach for his pocket for the money.
"Er... Hi there, kiddo," the cashier said, a woman in her thirties. Kiddo? Really? I'm twenty two. Daniel rolled his eyes, before feeling a few strange things. The first was, his tongue seemed to go numb. "Jus' dif," he lisped, before realizing it. The next thing he noticed was a bizzare warmth spreading in his jeans. Looking down, he saw a darkness on the light fabric spreading. And yet... He couldn't figure out what had happened. The third thing he noticed was an uncontrollable urge to cry. And so he did, promptly and without warning bawling his eyes out. |
Jo was a little befuddled, as the security guard closed in on them, and Daniel heaved up the package of diapers with difficulty. She was a little befuddled while the cashier looked to and greeted Daniel with unease. Unease that he simply didn't understand. Both were twenty-two years old, and then all of a sudden.... Daniel spoke, and he spoke like Annie.
"Dahneh!" Jo squeaked in dismay, as her legs began to quiver a little beneath her. It was just moments, and then her boyfriend was screaming like any shrieking toddler. Now though, her legs did as she had fears, falling out from under her like any child possibly could. Like the toddler Danny was acting... and suddenly... She was off the ground and in the arms of a security guard. "Where's your diaper, little fella? For the matter, where's your mommy?" the guard asked, lifting up Daniel like he was little more than a sake of potatoes. "Lily? Mind helping get these tykes in the missing children area?" The store itself was more than enough to warrant a small section, and quickly still, they stepped further and further away from the stroller itself, assuming that was for Lily the cashier to handle. |
Lily smiled and nodded, rounding the till to push the stroller. Doubling back a moment, she grabbed the daytime diapers off of the counter and put them under her shoulder before following the security guard. "I bet that their parents are somewhere in the store," she said. "We can get on the intercom in a minute."
Daniel, meanwhile, was finding it impossible to control his tears. He wanted to stop crying, to explain the situation, but every time he tried all he was able to do was sniffle a moment before bawling again. "Jeez, doesn't the kid ever shut up?" Lily said with an annoyed groan on the third or fourth time he resumed his bawling. Noting something on the counter in the lost kids room, she grabbed it and quickly stuffed it in Danny's mouth. He stopped crying, instead giving the bright pink pacifier in his mouth a small suckle |
The unnamed guard hauled Joey and her boyfriend through the store and into a small corner. A playpen littered with toys, a crib, and a changing table sat there.
"Whud awe ya doin'?" Joey inquired with difficulty, as she was carefully deposited in the play pen... and it became enormous. She clung to the side of the pen, her legs still wanting to wobble out from beneath her. "Weef Dahneh awone!" She was having difficulty keeping things together, as the guard laid down her boyfriend on the seemingly gigantic changing table. Her eyes were wide as saucers, still trying to determine just what was wrong with these people. "Lily, why don't you see if the little girl can give us her name? She seems to know this boy's name," the guard insisted with a sigh. He began to undo Daniel's buttons of his jeans, and tugged them down and off the ankles. "Boxers of a little boy? Looks like someone was looking to grow up a little too quickly." With that, he pulled those down too. |
Lily knelt down next to the little girl, speaking to her in soothing tones. "Hey there, honey, it's okay. Why don't you tell Lily your name, so we can find your parents?" She smiled warmly at the girl, not even quite a toddler yet, wondering how well she was understanding everything. "Then you can have a lolipop. Doesn't that sound nice?"
Daniel, meanwhile, hadn't stopped crying, but had settled into quieter sobs behind the mouthguard. He didn't even register the grow up comment, everything was just so confusing. Sniffling, he wiped his nose and suckled the pacifier, watching the security guard with a confused expression, trying to figure out what he was doing. "H-ha! Wada fu'?" He yelped, dropping the pacifier, when his boxers were removed. |
