Hmm. Alright. Jill is a non-combatant Elan, usually. She works as a gemcutter and jewelry designer, selling and designing jewelry and cute clothing and that sort of thing. She is trained in basic combat, at least, however, particularly mounted combat after she chose the dragoon designation. She is now out in search of a young dragon to befriend and use as a mount. She heard rumors this dungeon might contain what she is looking for. she's not entirely prepared for real, lethal combat, and might get a bit scared, but her body is tough like any Elans and she should do a decent job with her battleaxe. (For those of you unfamiliar with Elan they are normal humanoids upgraded into a more durable, perfected and slightly artifical humanlike shell through psionic rituals.)

Can you send me the dragoon class? I haven't heard of it before.

Afternoon everyone. Looking forward to playing.

madness123 December 7th, 18 06:30 PM

Hey Zilla! Been a while since I played with you.

ZillaSmasher December 7th, 18 06:42 PM

Yeah, it has. Hoping I can do better than our previous D&D games. Though I’m gonna need to basically relearn the game since I haven’t played in such a long time.

Well, 5e is generally super easy for new players, which is one of its big upsides. So hopefully that helps. If you have questions feel free to ask them tho, I'm sure me or 101 can answer whatever about the edition.

Alright. The main things I need to get a handle on are attacking and the different checks one can make.

madness123 December 7th, 18 06:58 PM

Attacking is always going to be the same, basically. You're a kobold with a rapier, so it uses your dex mod, and since you're proficient with the rapier it uses your proficiency mod. So until at least level 4, your attack roll will always be 3(dex) +2(prof). So your attack will always be at +5 unless you use something that you aren't proficient in. Rapier damage is 1d8, and you add your dex so will always be 1d8+3. If you throw a dagger or something, your attack roll will be the same and your damage modifier as well, you just swap the damage dice to 1d4 for 1d4+3 instead.

As far as checks, there are the six ability checks and associated skills. There's not a super great listing of what each skill does, I don't think, but they just use the same modifier as that ability score, plus proficiency bonus if you're trained in that skill. The gm will normally ask you for a skill/tell you which is appropriate.

What’s the difference between an Attack and a Damage Roll? And would I have to roll a d20 for an Attack Roll?

madness123 December 7th, 18 07:17 PM

Attack rolls use a 1d20 yes. Attack roll you roll first, to see if you hit. If you do, you make a damage roll to see how much damage that hit does. (We'll roll them both at the same time to speed things up, but the damage roll doesn't happen if you miss, basically.)
