Problem is, that money isn't everything (isn't that what they're all saying?), well, if he really is so sad, then why does he have to destroy coldplays day just for making a mistake? Obviously a band like Coldplay wouldn't be stupid enough to copy another big artist intentionally.

Meh, I don't know much about this, but whatever close feelings he might have to that song, doesn't liberate suing someone for as many money as possible.

Maybe when they wrote their song, coldplay had listened to the other song a while ago, and subconciously put the chord progression in their song

I've done that before actually. I remember messing around on guitar and "making up" stuff, then later figuring out that it is actually from a song or very similar to one. So yeah Coldplay may have done that.
