Just how common is a diaper fetish?

So, I was curious about how common a diaper fetish is, so that I could discern the likelihood of running into a fellow AB/DL...

Disclaimer: I cannot vouch for how accurate this is, this was merely my research based off of various metrics and polls, which can be answered illegitimately.

I had figured I needed some sort of metric, something that measures popularity, and a control value for something that we knew was relatively common... So I figured I'd use Google Trends to check search indexes and put a sock fetish as a control. Here is a link to the query I used.

The results were.... Surprising. Check it out, we are more common than a lot of us thought.

"Omorashi" (Literally translated to wetting oneself) is one of the most popular fetishes in Japan, and it is also one of the softest core ones, all it involves is having a fetish to people wetting themselves. No nudity or anything. A decent group of these happen to like diapers, but those are not the majority. (They call that "Omutsu omorashi" which literally translates to wetting oneself in a diaper)

Omutsu omorashi is pretty much Japan's version of the DL, which is freakishly uncommon, so we can't really use that to a very large degree for diapers. But surprisingly, a good majority of the search index for supposedly non-diaper-related Omorashi came from the following:

North America, with an index of 50/100 for "omorashi diaper".

This allows us to get the effective index by adding the diaper fetish index to the ratio of the omorashi index to give us a total of an index around 50-ish. And since there seems to be no other special terms for the other fetishes, we are able to sit with this.

When you compare Sock Fetish with Diaper fetish, you now get a ratio of about 2/3 in diaper fetish's favor.

Next I Google'd around and looked at about twelve polls, all of them had different data, but this one in particular seemed about average from the rest of them...

So that would be 25% claimed they had a sock fetish... Since the sexually comfortable index is 2% (I'll assume that percent of people would be the ones who took these quizzes too), when you combine the numbers you get about 0.5% sock fetish rate... And with the 2/3 ratio, we get about a 0.75% diaper fetish percentage.

So, based off of my research, every 1 out of 140-ish people has a diaper fetish of some sort. And since only a small percentage of us know how to use a computer well enough to visit and post on a forum, the percentage that we see online should be on par with the sexually comfortable index times semi-unpopular video games like EVE Online where 1 out of every 150 people that know how to use a computer well enough to post on forums use. Diaper fetishism should yield about 2% of that number. It also means that diaper fetish forums should be about 2% of the size of EVE Online forums... And our overall search volume should be about 2%-ish of theirs.

Off a bit, but with the fudge factor that polls have it's hardly surprising. We actually have 5% of the query count. That's pretty true to my results.

tl;dr - About %0.6-%0.75 of people that can use a computer likely have a diaper fetish.

What do you all think?

Nothing, I was just comparing relative interest in something that has a relatively known fanbase to give an idea of the ratios I was talking here. And it was also to verify the previous math to make sure things add up.

Nothing more then that.

Nice, but if you use the search terms "abdl", it dwarfs all of your other terms. Then the words "adult baby" dwarfs even that.

I don't think search term "diaper fetish" is what people type. I'm thinking infantilism and diaper lover or other terms would be more common.

Yeah... You are not the only one who has mentioned this... D:

Also compare the trends for "Adult baby" with the top-level term "diapers". The sheer mass of results for Adult Baby is shocking.

I'll need to revise my post when I have time.

Never heared of a sock fetish before, but thanks for the statistics.

It's good to know I'm not alone.

There are three types of lies; lies, damn lies, and statistics. However, I do like to study statistics and these numbers make me realize that people like us are much more common than I initially thought. I was thinking I was the sort of person who was one in a thousand, but it seems there are many people like me/us. This is a good thought. I have only ever met one other person in my whole life who thought diapers were cute and when she moved away, I felt so alone. Now I feel like there is once again hope for me.

Well the cool thing about it is that usually people don't say anything about liking things they are embarrassed about. And I know I've heard of more than one instance of someone coming out about liking diapers to their girlfriend, and finding out that they actually like it too. (These accounts may be lies, but then again, maybe not!)

It certainly isn't a common thing by any stretch of the imagination, but it is certainly is a lot more common than you'd think it is. The only question was how much...

For example, if you Google "Dares", the first result is the site "getDare" which contains eons of diaper dares in it's forum with many people that don't claim to be AB/DLs listing "diaper dares" as a "like".

Check this out... And this is only a list of diaper dare threads that were tagged!

Sorry to nerco this, but I also wanted to make a point regarding this. I honestly do not know how reliable that statistic is, as in were the one who made it (even if it is via Google) got it and what manner. Because while not ubber common, it seems very much more likely then what it gives compared to eve online. And that 0.% stuff you posted. It very much is possible to be exact, but from what I have seen and know, I feel it would be much higher then what you actually gave.

I do not know exactly unfortunately. Just my take on here I actually never did last time

But then again, you stated so in the disclaimer.

Yeah, even though I posted it two years ago, I think it is very likely largely inaccurate.

I never accounted for biases, used sources that don't really translate to each other, and just got excited at the numbers that I came up with even in light of the problems with my methodology.

The chances of those numbers being correct are really low, and I would rather just forget about them.

True, didn't mean to necro a two year old thing, just bugged me for a bit. I mean, while very likely to be inaccurate, it is entertaining to see some numbers, even if it is the idea it's lower making the amount much higher and in hindsight how good that is.
