STORY HELP: Parents and balancing being a baby and an adult
 

I'm currently working on a story set at a community college and one of the main characters, while a straight-A student and competent adult, gets babied to a large extent when she goes home:

+ Despite being (mostly) potty trained for most public occasions, the closest she's ever had to underwear are Pull-Ups (just in case of accidents). At home she wears what appear to be scaled-up baby diapers.

+ She does her chores and homework herself.

+ Sleeps in a crib.

+ Drinks from bottles and sippy cups.

+ Not allowed to change herself at home when she pees or poops.

+ Has toys.

+ Has a high chair in the kitchen and a booster seat for when she's in a car.


Her parents are well aware of her baby side, obviously.

My question is on what basis can her Mom and Dad be comfortable with her being a *BDL?

I'm going for plausibility here and any advice would be much obliged.

Perhaps on the basis that she's been very frank, open and honest with them about it from the beginning, and having talked it through several times over a long history of her having these needs and desires, they've come to accept and understand that it is something she requires in order to remain that 'straight-A student' and 'competent adult'? Maybe it's an arrangement that they've come to after a long and painful process of the issue regularly spiralling out of hand, but now doing as they do is what keeps the matter managed and contained, and ensures their daughter keeps it 'just in the family' and continues to present a good and functional public face.

Also, perhaps her parents are very liberal and open-minded and permissive, with the general attitude that they should let their daughter choose her own path, and the recognition that her unconventional behaviours are at least harmless. Hence why she also feels so free to open up to them about what she wants.

Obviously, there is going to be a limit to the plausibility factor, no matter what! I can't see you ever finding this happening in the real world! The only other thing I can think of is if her mother and father were into diapers themselves, but that would seem to bring the wrong kind of creepy tone into it, I think! Perhaps if 'Mom and Dad' were more of a surrogate 'Mom and Dad' closer to her own age, and fellow ABDLs, who she'd found online and moved in with?
