Ancient Padded Times - a Cleopatra RP (private)
 

Actium was in flames. Octavian and his armada had captured the city. It was plain to see that Egypt had fallen. However, the invaders had failed to capture or kill the queen.

Queen Cleopatra had attempted to commit suicide, but she had failed. Her only remaining choice was to escape with her son Caesarion and her servant Charmion. At this time, the three of them were rowing across the Ionian Sea to escape the carnage.

"We made it out. We have to thank the gods for this blessing."

"I suppose we do," Cleopatra muttered, holding Caesarion close. She had been prepared to die for her country, but the gods seemed to have other plans. At the very least, she took some comfort in knowing that she still had her son.

"I wish we could have been able to track down the others," Caesarion said. His three half-siblings were supposed to follow them, but they were running out of time, especially with Octavian close at hand.

"I hope so, as well, my son," Cleopatra said softly, kissing the boy on the forehead. She counted herself fortunate enough to have gotten Caesarion alive. Did she dare hope the others had been lucky enough to survive, as well? For now, she had to focus on rendezvousing with Marc Antony.

"Good thing you were able to stop that message you had planned to send," Charmion said. "That would've been unfortunate. If there's anything I can tell about your husband, he is adept making his way from the scene of disaster."

"Indeed," Cleopatra remarked, smiling at her ever-faithful servant. "Caesar was taken from me because he was too trusting. Antony is more careful. I have no doubt he will endure."

They made their way to the other side of the river, where there was a safe place they could stay for the night. Hopefully Antony would find his way there, but if he didn't, they had other places to get there.

Once they landed on the beach, Charmion scuttled the boat, and she led her mistress and her mistress's son to the rendezvous point at an abandoned building. To their relief, Antony was already there.

They embraced and kissed at that moment. "I feared the worst."
