Elisabeth Laurier had once entered a simple contract: carry a child for a nobleman whose wife was unable to give him an heir. She had done so willingly, unaware of how much she would come to regret agreeing to not partake in her child's life. Several years later, she was now an active part of her child, Louisa's, life.

Louisa had certainly suffered a bit in not having a mother, particularly as her father had been so reluctant to discipline her, but Elisabeth had personally made a turnaround for her. It was especially so right now as they nuzzled together.

They had just left Charles Godwin's estate, and they were on their way to someplace cozier. "Now the three of us can be a proper family," said Charles.

"I certainly look forward to that," she replied.

Louisa nodded to agree. "We have a lot to catch up on, do we not?"

"Of course we do," Elisabeth said. She was thinking back to when she was separated from her daughter initially on the day she was born.

She had not even been permitted to hold her baby girl before she was taken away. However, she had a plan to start over, right from the beginning.

"I want it to be as if I raised you from the start, back when you were just a babe," she said.

Louisa was intrigued. "How do you mean, Mummy?"

"Like I had a chance to feed you, clothe you, bathe you, change nappies."
