Edo Castle, the home of the shogunate and his retainers, certainly was quite imposing on all fronts. Of course there were plenty of stories about it, especially with regards to women.

Japan, while historically a patriarchal society in most versions of the world, had a select few where the women had had to step in for whatever reason.

Furthermore, across all versions, the lines regarding gender norms could often blur, an act that the few Europeans allowed access into the country were surprised by.

Even so, no one would have thought there might be such a time when the women took over out of pure necessity.

(I don't know exactly, but certainly no later than another 30 minutes. Odds are it could be before that, though)

The reason for that started with an unsanctioned excursion by two figures, traveling back in time on the rendition of Earth they lived on.

"Alright, here we are in the I Dunno Period," Yumyulack said as he and Jesse emerged in the past. "EDO Period, Yum," Jesse corrected him in annoyance.

"Well, what the fuck ever," he said. "But you can't find a better place to experiment than here." He had pilfered some samples from Korvo's collection of Earth diseases, for the purposes of potential biological warfare. And right now, the Replicants had stashes of rabies, smallpox and anthrax.

"Just remember, this is supposed to be a CONTROLLED experiment," Jesse emphasized, "If it gets out of hand... no more anime! And nobody wants that!"

"Yeah, yeah. But remember, if a bear could be deadly on cocaine like in that movie, imagine what it could do on this beauty of a cocktail!"

"That is true," Jesse admitted, "Anyway, where do you want to start?"
