A Hidden Spark

James Jones, wealthy son of one of the oldest families in the country scowled as he sat in the front of the stage, sitting next to his largely overbearing father. His father was a monster, plain and simple. No man should buy slaves for the purpose of working 17 hour shifts in a sweatshop to extend his own power. James hated slavery, seeing his father’s greed and corruption ensured that. You see, they lived in a world of two different kinds of people. You have humans, who were the dominant race, and a race of nekos, who were typically forced to submit to humans, and forced to be slaves. There were a few free nekos, but they were far in between, and were readily abused by society because of their DNA.

“Euw, James, take a look at one. Fine pair of hands she got,” He father hissed in his ear, causing James to frown even further. “Mmmmm, that’s a nice set of legs too, shame once she’s mine she ain’t gonna be walking on em. Sitting and pulling threads in the factory all day is what she’s got coming to er,” He said in a thick accent. “1000,” He shouted to the auctioner, smirking from ear to ear, evidently very happy with his new purchase of free labor.

James scowled at each of his fathers words. It hurt his eyes to even look at how uncomfortable the girl on the stage was. He and his father had never gotten along. While his father focused on business and money, James could never be that greedy. While his father spent all his time under mining the competition and robbing people of their money, James studied and read. Finally, James had graduated from one of the country’s top universities at the mere age of 20, the top of his class. But his father barely even cared, rolling his eyes and treating him like a dog. But recently, it seemed to have occurred to his thick-headed asshole father that he wasn’t immortal and someday he would need an heir to take over his company and fortune.

And as a result, the past few weeks had been almost nightmarish for James. His father had made him go through the sweat shops, and see how his fortune came to be. The sight of all the poor nekos who would never be able to do anything but sew and move machines had made him physically sick. He didn’t mind the finance aspect of it, but the rest of his father’s legacy disgusted him. Finally, not being able to take the idea of his father getting another worker, just as the auctioneer said the words “Going twice,” He raised his arm and shouted, “two thousand five hundred.”

That had been most of his own money he had saved up from working at school. But it didn’t matter, not to James anyway. He glanced over to see his father’s reaction, only to see an amused smirk on his face. His father didn’t say a word, as James waited patiently for the auctioneer to finish, before finally looking up to examine the female more closely. His face instantly turned red as he couldn’t help but admire the youth, finding himself slowly growing attracted to her and that beautiful body.
