The world had changed since humanity split on the evolutionary path way. The population had split between normal humans, and humans which had started to develop more fox-like features. They developed tails, and longer ears, as well as having larger canine's. Their senses were also a lot stronger, and their bodies were slightly shorter.

The two branches of humanity didn't trust each other very much at all, and quickly split into two countries. But, the two countries still worked together, having the same schools and emergency services, but separate governments. The populations mixed, but not in a socially acceptable way. Marriage between the two was very frowned upon and difficult to get, but it was possible pending both countries signing the marriage form.

Enter James, a young Neko who had met the love of his love at college. A young human girl, who he found to be absolutely beautiful, the equal to himself in beauty. James had brown, almost yellowish hair, ears and tail. He wore a thin blue shirt, and brown pants, with a hole made for his long furry tail. He took his appearance very seriously, and brushed his fur several times each day, determined to look his best.

Smiling, the foxy neko crept into his lovers apartment by using the hidden key she had given him, and curled up on her couch. She was at work, so he found the opportunity perfect for a nap until she came back. He curled up in a ball, hugging his own large tail, and soon fell asleep, awaiting his lover's warm embrace and return. He had gathered the paperwork earlier so that they could talk to the joint Neko and Human's affair committee about possibly getting married. It was a long process, but he knew it would be worth it in the end.
