It had once been a blasted, barren plateau, bereft of civilization and territory to only a few particularly stubborn dragons that insisted on roosting there; a landmark in the middle of nowhere that only foolish sightseers might take much interest in.
However, this was no more. A goddess had descended from above and raised a castle from the very aether to sit proudly atop the plateau, inviting the weary traveler passing by to seek shelter in such an inhospitable environment.
The goddess had her reasons for leaving her realm behind to dwell on this plane; she had been studying the mortals below, and felt herself grieving for the many saddened and downtrodden hearts she heard crying out to anybody that could hear. The possessor of one such saddened heart, a young woman named Lightning, would be coming this way soon.
The goddess was young, in the way the sun is young to collapsing stars, and she wanted to help in a far more direct way than most of her kind would; she wanted to offer her help to the lost young woman calling herself Lightning, and to those like her.
Sometimes all that was needed was a second chance at simpler times.
