Admittedly, when Black Canary heard the new Batgirl request to her about ‘taking care of Barbara’ she was a bit perplexed.

Taking care of someone implied they weren’t able to do it themselves. Barbara was a lot of things, and one of those things was fiercely independent.

Still, she wasn’t about to leave a close friend hanging, and motorcycled her way through Gotham and eventually walking down to enter Barbara’s apartment.
She knocked on the door, hearing a more youthful voice than the mature woman she’d heard through their comms usher her inside.

And when she entered, she began to understand what Cass meant about taking care of Barbara. Barbara was turning twenty nine this year, or was supposed to be, but somehow…

She looked sixteen, her face not yet past adulthood, limbs still vaguely gangly and even the glasses on her face that Dinah knew were a piece of high tech equipment made her look… strangely geeky, if that was an appropriate term.

Were they different? The rims looked a little different...

Dinah blinked, Babs was still in the wheelchair. There weren’t any handles on the back, Barbara always preferred wheeling herself and Dinah could completely get the logic.
“Hey.”

“O-oh! Hey Dinah,” Barbara stammered out with shock, standing up from the wheelchair.

Huh. That’s new.*

“What happened, explain,” Dinah finally managed to say, hearing a sigh form her friend.

Barbara Gordon didn't expect Poison Ivy's flower to do this to her, even if getting to walk again was part of the treatment.

"Come in!" Barbara said as heard Dinah knock and realized how different her voice was too.

Barbara nervously wheeled over in her chair and stood up, albeit shakily.

"This was something Poison Ivy did to me." Barbara explained. As soon as she saw Dinah's face tense up, she shook her head. "No no no! She wanted to help me, not hurt me!" She clarified. "This was an experimental flower that she gave me to help fix my spine and restore it to before I was... you know. The problem is that, well, it worked a little too well."

Dinah nodded.
"What do you mean by that?" She asked. On one hand, Barbara getting to walk again was a miracle, but on the other hand...
Well, Ivy wasn't known for her empathy for humanity, especially related to one of the Bat's crew.

"It essentially regressed me to an earlier age when I wasn't paralyzed." Barbara explained. "There's also the fact that--whoa!" She stumbled over and fell into Dinah's arms. "I'm still getting used to walking again."

Dinah felt that touch of maternal care as she held Barbara, but tried to let Barbara maintain a little dignity.
"well, forgive me if this is out of line, but while this... thing is happening, you might wanna break out some old supplies."

Barbara was confused. "Supplies? What do you mean by... oh... oh no..." She knew what her friend meant.

Dinah chuckled.
"Come on, Babs, it's not like I don't have experience."
When Barbara left the hospital following Joker's act of cruelty, it was a matter of adjustment, adjustment that Barbara took to with her characteristic determined drive.

But even she needed help with some of the... awkward parts.

"But it's embarrassing!" Barbara whined. "I can walk now! Well, kinda."

"And that's amazing, really, but just while you get used to it all, I'm sure you'd rather not go through underwear ten a day."
Dinah turned away.
"Now, where are they? In the closet, Under the bed, I know you're a hoarder so you didn't get rid of them."

Barbara tried to follow Dinah to her bedroom, but she was still struggling to walk again, so she looked like a child toddling around. "It's... in my closet, behind my old Batgirl things..."
