As she sang her soporific tune, the Gardevoir watched as Dawn slowly drifted off to sleep, her grip loosening and her struggles fading away. “Good girl.” the Gardevoir spoke telepathically to Dawn, noticing the trainer was on the verge of slumber.
The Trevenants, who had formed a tight circle around the singing Gardevoir and the ensnared trainer, began to move away. Their presence was still necessary, should the trainer somehow resist the spell of sleep, but for now, they kept their distance.
Once the Gardevoir confirmed that Dawn was asleep—cradling the girl in her arms—the Trevenants broke their formation, now spread loosely around each other.
“I still do not understand why you could not simply teleport her away.” one Trevenant said, its voice distorted and raspy.
“Do not speak to her in that tone!” another Trevenant snapped, its voice low and taut. “She is an elder of the Village, and for that, she commands your respect.”
“Maybe so…” another Trevenant chimed in, its voice soft but croaky. “But you know the laws. No human shall ever set foot in the Village, no matter the circumstance.” This one turned to the Gardevoir, who still held the slumbering trainer. “Perhaps it is best to leave this human to find her way back.” it suggested.
The Gardevoir shot the ghostly tree a look of disbelief and shock, as though appalled by the suggestion. “And what if she does not return to her civilization?” she prodded.
The Trevenant motioned to the dozing beasts sprawled across the forest floor. “Well, these beasts have not had a meal in quite—”
Before the Trevenant could finish, a barrage of sharp leaves rained down, slicing into its wooden body and grazing its ghostly skin. The Trevenant grunted and winced as he was pelted with these literal blades of grass continuously cut into their body. When the barrage came to an end, the haunted tree fell to the ground with a loud crash, their boughs bearing thin slashes, their bodies speckled with cuts.
The other Trevenant were helpless to defend their friend, as they watched him be assaulted. Now, while the attack was not very effective-seeing as they were alive-the message was clear. And as these intimidating beasts slowly set their eyes on the feminine pokemon, they began to sweat bullets as the humanoid stared directly at them with unparalleled fury.
“We are not cruel!” the Gardevoir stated, her gaze unwavering as it met the other Trevenants’. “We will take this matter to the Leader.”
