At the moment, Sarah and James were discussing strategies with Alexander and Eliza (both families had had new blessed arrivals by this point) to plan for Alexander's likely appearing to meet his son's fate. This needed more of a contingency, especially given the family basically lived on his continued legal work. His apparent death would bring them to the brink of ruin, a cruel irony for the man who ably handled the nation's finances.

"According to what we've learned from the Woman in Purple, our nation will eventually expand all the way to the Pacific Ocean," Noah pointed out, "I would propose settling somewhere between here and there, likely someplace sparsely populated. That way, no one will disturb us, and we will not upset our country's timeline."

"That's quite nice. It's very appealing. Eventually in time, we may be able to return to Philadelphia or New York. As for the money situation?"

"We could probably get by with investments and taking interest in Wall Street," Alexander proposed.

"Yes, especially when index funds become a thing." Of course, James and Sarah would continue in journalism in some form over the centuries, under new identities and different publications.

In any case, it appeared that they were all prepared to handle the long-term necessities associated with immortality, as well as the precautions for maintaining a peaceful existence.

The time for this transition finally came in the summer of 1804, when Alexander drew the wrath of Aaron Burr, especially after the latter's attempt to become governor of New York was thwarted. The reasons leading up to an affair of honor were clearly flimsy and transparent, but sensing what had to be done, he played right into Burr's trap.

Eventually, the day of the duel came around, and the outcome was as grim as could be expected. Burr inflicted upon Hamilton what would have been a lethal wound, had he not been blessed by the Woman in Purple. He was then carried away from the scene and returned to his home. Soon after, his death was publicly announced.

With that, the retreat from view began. Through this time, they would see the best and the worst of America, and continue to build relationships with their fellow immortals all over the world. But no one could have forseen the first real threat any of them would encounter.
