(DeRulo is the only one I was particularly concerned about, given his utter lack of talent, moronic songs filtered through layers of processing, and equally stupid dances. But the biggest potential problem I saw was the decision to turn the story into a book musical, given that the material doesn't adapt itself to that standard very easily. In fact, just about everyone stated that this musical simply couldn't be done in a film)

(No argument about Derulo on my end. And I agree wholeheartedly with what you said. One of the most endearing aspects about the musical is its almost total lack of a plot, and how the backstory of the musical itself and the backstories of the characters are open to interpretation. The upcoming film looks as though it'll take all that away, which I do not approve of at all.)

(There's also the fact that this rendition is clearly done to chase crossover potential to convert people who aren't fans of musicals. But Cats has never had that. While it was the biggest show in the world for a time, it never had that type of appeal to non-musical groups the way Les Mis or Phantom, or now Hamilton, has)

(Based on the new trailer, it could probably appeal to the furry fanbase. But that was never the reason for the musical's existence. You do have a point, though.)
