Since the first time someone wished upon a star, the power of human desire had powered the planet of Starland. Alas, in recent years, less and less people had been looking to the stars to fulfill the yearning of their hearts.

As such, Lady Stella of Starling Academy had seen fit to invoke the Star Darlings to ensure that humans, mainly children, would keep wishing.

The Star Darlings, Adora, Astra, Cassie, Clover, Gemma, Libby, Leona Piper, Sage, Scarlet, Tessa, and Vega, were eager for the task.

Within the first few months of receiving their assignments, each had successfully gotten at least one person on Earth to make a wish. But after that, Lady Stella's colleague, Lady Cordial, had revealed herself to be Rancora, a malicious individual who thrived on negative wish energy.

What had followed was a tough battle which had left both Vega and Lady Stella teetering on the brink of death.

Both were now bedridden and only semiconscious.

Sage and the other ten Darlings had taken turns tending to them in the infirmary. "How could this have happened?" Sage mused as she replaced the damp washcloth on Lady Stella's forehead.

"I don't know," Clover said. "But the fact that Lady Stella could be tricked like that shows even the best of us are not infallible."

"Which just goes to show that we have to be on our guard," Scarlet said as she approached with her arms folded. "We can't afford any more distractions."

At that moment, Tessa came forward with a package of diapers. "Sorry it took me a while to get these." Naturally, Vega and Lady Stella, in their state, needed protection in another sense.

"What matters is that you came through," Adora assured her roommate, looking on as Libby checked both their friend and the headmistress.

Right now, both of them were badly in need of a change, as they were quite messy.
