"Not my fault I couldn't pay the bills," grumbled a girl as she drove through town in her car.

Dakota Smith, 21, drove her red Cadillac down the street of her hometown after being kicked out of her apartment. She looked into the mirror by her windshield, which showed the reflection of her face with her long, brown hair, her beautiful, blue eyes, and her glasses. Behind her was everything she had in her old apartment. Her clothes, her knick-knacks, everything she had from there. It wasn't much though mainly but it was enough to get by. The only problem was that she couldn't pay the rent meaning that her landlord had no other choice but to evict her. Needless to say this wasn't the first time she was in this position for there were two or three occasions where Dakota was in the same position.

"Dumb landlord," she muttered as she continued driving, tugging on her red shirt that was accompanied by her black skirt and black shoes.

Thankfully she had a friend who she knew all her life who helped her out every time she needed to find a new place to live and this time was no exception. Though she couldn't help but feel guilty over using her friend like that. It wasn't her fault, she thought to herself, she was in a desperate position so she assured herself that he would understand.

Mike Daniels, 23, was currently setting up the finishing touches to his spare room. It had been under a week a go when his friend Dakota had called him up crying, she was getting kicked out of her apartment and had no where to go. He felt bad for her and decided he would help, Dakota had never been the best at keeping up with bills, but he had always looked after her. He was a larger man of about six and a third feet with a medium build and was quite handsome, nice shaven face, deep cobalt eyes and short brown hair. He sighed as he closed the door behind him and got a little nervous about what she would say after he saw her plans for her.

He was sitting in the living room of his home when he heard a knock at the door. After getting up and checking the peephole he saw that it was her. He opened his door and smiled in at her, "hey there." he said as he gave the small girl a hug and smiled, "how are you doing?" he asked as he helped her with her bags.

Dakota finally pulled up to Mike's driveway and stopped her vehicles. She felt a little bit nervous because she was afraid that she would be a burden to her friend yet again. After sitting in the car for a moment she quickly reassured herself and got herself out of the girl.

"Pull yourself together," Dakota said to herself, "You don't want to look desperate again, do you?"

She walked towards the front door, deciding to leave behind her stuff for now, save for a few bags which contained her clothes and essentials, at least until she is certain that Mike would be okay with staying with her until she can find a new apartment to move into, and hopefully one more affordable this time. Nervously Dakota brought her fist up and knocked onto the door. After what seemed like forever Mike answered the door and Dakota let out a little smile as she accepted the hug and hand her bags over to Mike.

"I am fine," she said, trying to act like that her situation wasn't much of a big deal to her.

"you don't look fine." he said as he set her bags down next to the wall and sat down on the couch, "come on sit down and tell me what's up." he said as he patted the cushion next to him, "After all if your gonna be living with me you should at least make an effort to tell me what happened that made you wanna come stay with me that is." he said with a smirk as she came over and sat by him. He put his arm around her and pulled her to his side, "hey cheer up, you shouldn't be so sad, after all your doing me a favor, it gets awfully lonely in this big house of mine." he joked as he tried to make her smile. "SO tell me all the details, what happened, throw too many parties, get drunk and cuss someone out?" he said joking some more.

Dakota nodded as she walked inside, following Mike into the living room. She sat right down on the couch right next to Mike and took a look at him, letting out a little frown. She perked up a little when she was told to cheer up, but did wonder what he meant but "doing him a favor". Dakota decided that it was best to be honest as usual so she took a nice, big, deep breath before she started to explain her situation.

"I....was kicked out because I couldn't pay the bills again," Dakota explained, "The landlord was just being unfair by forcing me to pay bills that I couldn't keep up with. It was bad enough that I got fired from my part-time job as it is, but he insisted that I find a way to meet with his demands. Personally I am glad I don't live there anymore. Never did like that part of town anyway."

Deep down Dakota was hurting over her situation but she hoped that Mike had no way of knowing. The look on her face, however, could beg to differ. If there was one thing Dakota was never good at it was having an unbeatable poker face. It was what allowed Mike to see through her ruses nearly 100% of the time.

"Well i can see that this is obviously bugging you more than you are letting on, so just relax and take a load off, its in the past and there isn't anything we can do about it now to change that alright." he said as he rubbed her shoulder reassuringly, "don't worry its alright you can stay here as long as you need to, until you get back on your feet or permanently if you want to, I'm sure we could come up with a rent solution if need be." he said with a smile. "After all it will be like old times and what not, and don't feel like you are imposing on me, Its nice to have you here keeping me company." He then stood up and went over to the kitchen, "would you like something to drink?" he asked her from the kitchen.

After hearing all that Dakota didn't know what to think. He was such a nice guy that she felt bad enough before for taking advantage of him. Now that he sounded even more understand that made Dakota feel guiltier than ever. Sure, the idea of living with him permanently sounded nice, she was just afraid that she wouldn't be able to make ends meet enough to satisfy match his. Dakota just watched Mike as he got up and headed straight for the kitchen.

"Uh....maybe some wine would help take my mind of things," Dakota suggested.

"Wine huh, didn't know you fancied alcohol now." he said as he came back to the living room and handed her a glass of wine. "now just calm down, and relax a bit alright." he said as he sat down next to her. "We can drink talk and have a bit of fun as we do," he said as he took a sip, "and we can get caught up, anything you been up to recently?" he asked as he watched her almost down the glass of wine, "whoa slow down." he said. wow she's really wanting to put this stuff away, this might be easier than it thought he thought to himself as he filled her glass up again, "well i did say relax so just drink as much as you want."

Dakota took the glass of wine and began to relax a little just as Mike had instructed her to do. Taking a few sips as she looked at Mike. After taking down a couple of more sips she decided to talk. "Well I have been just house-hunting mostly." Dakota then quickly downed her glass after saying that exact sentence. Holding out her glass she allowed Mike to pour some more wine in and proceeded to drink it down just like she did with the last one. Making herself comfortable, Dakota just continued drinking as she started to slowly forget her troubles with each sip.

"Oh house hunting huh? That sounds like a nightmare." he said as he sat next to her sipping on the wine glass, "well don't feel rushed or anything just take your time and you can crash here until you find something nice." he said with a smile as he poured her another glass, "but for now let's just have a good time." he said as he tapped his glass against hers and then began to drink again, watching her downing her own glass with a smile. This continued for a little over an hour until he was staring at a red faced, hiccuping, giggling drunk Dakota. "Alright I think you've had a little too much to drink." he said
