A Twist in Fate

A nasty snowstorm began to brew as Corrin and his small army marched from a side mission near the ice village. Corrin had a hard time seeing the path and soon they were all completely lost.

Frowning, Corrin blinked his eyes and tried to remember the way when Leo ran up to him on his horse. "Brother, I think there is a village up ahead. It appears to be abandoned, but there should be a place for us to spend the night."

Corrin nodded his head and said, "Good idea Leo." He then turned to face the other six people in his group announcing the plan. He then began to head down the path towards the village, soon reaching it. Once past the fence, he quickly spotted what appeared to be an old inn ahead, and gestured to his men indicating the direction. Once they got to the door, he found it surprisingly unlocked. Heading inside, he noticed that it was surprisingly warm, as though something magical was present. Calling Leo, Odin, and Hayato over, he asked them to see if they could detect the presence of anything, while the rest of them began to explore the inn, trying to find rooms for the night.

Hayato shivered , snow piling up on his shoulders "come on then lets get inside. I didn't exactly dress for the weather" he scoffed , shivering under the snow as it started to soak into what little clothes he did have on. He struggled a little with the drifts of snow , tired from the walking and the fact the snow was blocking his entire stride. Annoyed that he couldn't just step over the drifts like his taller counterparts he struggled on towards the inn.

Sialis was still mounted and found no issue in the travelling , but the heavy black armour he had on was weighing him down a bit. He couldn't hear much but spotted a stable to the side he could keep his horse in to keep it warm and sheltered against the growing blizzard. He thundered on ahead so he could get inside roughly the same time as the other's after helping his horse get comfortable.


Takumi nimbily leaped through the snow , either padding just on the surface or being careful not to break the surface and bog himself down he sided up with Corrin and his technical step sibling if he could be called that "Any shelter will do , we can't suffer any more attrition as it is. If we're attacked out here we'd be done for , no visibility , no cover and no mobility. The least we can do is hold up and wait this out. Maybe see if there's any food. Preferably something fresh , but I'll take anything warm at this point" he said as he stood by the fence to bring up the rear , having his pelt over him kept him the warmest of the team , apart from the wolf and fox who had a built in fur coat to keep them warm.

Once all the animals were situated for the night and Odin had finished inspecting for ghosts, ("Be gone wretched apparitions of the undead. It is I, Odin Dark and I command you to leave the spontaneous sanctuary and never again appear before us. So says my tome hand......"), Corrin gathered the group around a fire Leo had conjured up in the fireplace in the center of the inn. "It seems we'll be stuck here tonight until the storm ends in the morning," He explained, crossing his arms. "There seem to be bedrooms upstairs, though I don't know how warm they'd be. It might be smarter just to go up and steal some beds and bring them down here by the fire. We'd be safer if we stayed together during the night, we don't know yet if this village is indeed abandoned or not."

Leo frowned and went off on his own, before being quickly followed by his retainer to search for some kind of food. Surely in an inn this size they had to have something canned or preserved, even if it wasn't fresh.

Kaden turned to face Keaton and said, "I'm surprised your still here buddy. All those abandoned rooms upstairs, probably ripe with your kind of treasures."

Silas and Takumi were the last in , yanking the door shut and putting a bar across it , just for safety. Takumi made him way to where Leo and Corrin were discussing rooms "no way am I staying in the same room with him" he stated nodding at Leo , huffing and folding his arms as he leaned back against a wall and looked about the large common room "if it ends. Where are we. Doesn't Nohr have that snow town where it's always winter? We could be here a while." he said , pessimistically.

Hayato sat in front of the fire , holding his hands out and rubbing them together , still shivering from the snow outside. He shivered but couldn't detect anything , anything at all in the building or around them as far as his magic range could tell they were alone with no wildlife or anything near them. It wasn't unusual seeing as any animals should be hibernating. He silently wished he was snuggled in a warm bed back home , although no one would be getting him to admit that.

Sialis sighed, "I'll check the rooms then , if we can't move them I'll see what state they're in" he said heading up the stairs. Everywhere bar the fireplace was dark , he needed to find some candles and matches to light , or just hand them over to the magic users to light , but that would be making light of their very powerful set of magic skills.

Keaton nodded "yea probably , it's all upstairs and stuff , in the attic mostly , but the whole place looks pretty old so might not all be up there" he said sounding a little downtrodden , which was given away as a lie by his tail wagging slightly.

Leo turned his head at Takumi and rolled his eyes in a superior way, before continueing into the kitchen with Odin. He then began to open each cabinet slowly, curious as to what might lie inside, while Odin began to search the many drawers for anything edible. Curiously, most of the cabinets were bare, except for one which seemed to be filled with food and supplies for an infant. The bottom shelf was filled with jars of what appeared to be baby food and applesauce, and the top had several plastic baby bottles. Blinking his eyes, he slowly closed the cabinet before glancing over at Odin. "Did you find anything?"

"Nothing Milord except some dusty bread that has turned black with age and what appears to be the feces of rats. There is likely a whole colony of them around in the walls," Odin explained.

"Hmmm, well we better go report what we found to the others. I doubt it'll do much though. This place looks like it might have a basement, which means there might be something down there. Jars of canned food, or a wine cellar perhaps," He pondered.

Corrin turned to follow Silas upstairs, curious what might be in the rooms upstairs. At the very least, even if they couldn't move any of the beds, they should be able to at least take the blankets and pillows, which would provide some warmth.

"Only one way to find out," Kaden said with a grin. "Lets go upstairs and explore. Who knows what we'll find." He then transformed into the large fox creature and scampered up the up the stairs and to the right, hoping to get Keaton to chase him.

Silas had a look in the rooms , they seemed clean enough , maybe a little dusty but were in tact. Looking in a few there appeared to be enough space for everyone , a few having smaller fireplaces of their own. Some were decorated in pink , some in blue , which wasn't unexpected. What was odd was that each one didn't had a real bed per say , most had cribs , it bars and such. They were sized up to the size of each of the warriors currently in the building. the most mature bed was more for a toddler , with guards that could be let down from the inside. "Hmm , what a odd slection of furniture" he noted , going to the closet and opening it up and taking a few clothes out. they were dry at least , and warm. Only issue was they were more baby clothes than actual tunics and shirts "Heh , good thing we have our own clothes in the caravan to wear or we would need to change into these" he chuckled searching the rest of the room. Finding a toybox and changing table "it's like the rooms are for big babies , well a bed's a bed and I don't think anyone will turn up the opportunity to have a bed to sleep in. " he said as he headed back out to the hallway. He found a linen closet with blankets and such which he handed over to Corrin to carry long with a box of candles and matches which were tucked away "okay , I think we should start some house work , shame Felicia or Jacob isn't here " he said noting how dusty everything was that wasn't in a closet "right we should change the sheets up here and bring some extra duvets downstairs" he said , feeling the weight of his armour , thinking it would be better to get out of it and into something lighter soon.

Keaton transformed and followed , bounding up the stairwell , wanting to get to the good stuff before the fox did and took it all for himself.

Walking out of the kitchen, Leo first noticed that some people seemed to have left. Corrin and the knight were gone, likely upstairs looking for blankets and beds, as well as the Wolfskin and the Kitsune. They had probably gone upstairs as well, though likely for different reasons, probably to cause trouble and make a mess. He noticed that the boy mage from Hoshido was by the fire and that the brat was leaning against the wall. Frowning, he turned to Odin and said, "I suppose your dismissed until we have something else worth doing." He then turned to sit on a chair near the fire, pulling out his tome to read, while occasionaly giving the Hosidion Prince a glare to rival his own.

Odin smiled and walked over to Hayato, sitting next to him. "So, what demons have you banished back to hell fellow servant of the dark arts?" He asked in his complete serious, yet not serious tone of voice, a goofy grin on his face.

Taking the blankets from Silas, Corrin turned to take them downstairs, before jumping out the way as a ball of fur ran by him, followed quickly by a large werewolf. "Watch it you two," He lectured, before chuckling at them. He then turned to go downstairs. "Me and Silas found some blankets. Unfortunately, the only beds upstairs seem to be built for extra large infants. They could possibly be slept in, though I don't know how comfortable or warm they'd actually be."

Kaden cackled as he ran down the hall, "Catch me if you can Keaton," He teased, before diving into a random closet headfirst and knocking an entire shelf's worth of clean diapers on top of him. Groaning, he transformed back into a human, before rubbing his head awkwardly.

Silas nodded as he set candles about "there's not many rooms , some have one bed , others have two , so as long as some don't mind sharing it shouldn't be two bad...." he said , his tone dropping off as he saw the blond prince stare off going on across the room. "We brought blanket down though. Like Corrin said , they're clothes upstairs , but not the sort we'd wear. Anyway , if the clothes in the caravan are dry we can change into those and try and wamr up instead of being damp and trying to get warm by the fire" he suggested , trying to be pragmatic and diplomatic about the situation.

Takumi glared back "well did you actually FIND any food we can eat , or just decided to go for a stroll" he stated , trying to out condensed Leo right now. He wondered a bit about his own vassals . Most likely fawning over a doll of him or something just to keep them entertained.

Hayato tried not to laugh, but his oversized pride swelled at the proper treatment of his manly arts "well no , nothing , nothing living or as far as I can tell supernatural. No ghosts or other things lurking here. Just snow , which is odd for a village. But then again there is a war on" he said delivering his readings "as for monsters. I could banish many back and defeat them all with my mastery of magic , but being limited to my village I've had to be content with charms and warding off spirits , preventive measures. This war is really the first offensive use of my magic." he explained. "And I wouldn't call it dark. Not when it brings good to people" he added smugly.

Keaton bounded after him , catching up and flicking him in the forehead in his wolf form before reverting back "aww you made a mess of...what are these things?" he asked holding them up and sniffing. He gave a cough "smells new , and soft" he said , tutting like he could taste the smell and was trying to get rid of it.

Leo listened to Silas, and nodded his head, "Seems reasonable," He said with a smile, deliberately ignoring Takumi to try and piss him off. He then turned to Corrin and said, "Me and Odin searched the kitchens, I'm afraid all we could find was baby food and empty baby bottles." Then, unable to resist the temptation to insult Takumi, he turned his head to face him and said, "So, you'll be right at home here."

Seeing a potential fight about to break out, Corrin rushed forward in between the two and turned to Takumi, "Takumi, why don't you go see if you can't find anything else upstairs. We only searched the bedrooms, I'm sure there has to be storerooms or something up there." He suggested. "Once I change out of my armor, I'll come with you."

Odin smirked and said, "You'll learn apprentice, you'll learn quick the ways of the darkest of arts by watching me, Odin Dark, slayer of demons and fiends." He then laughed loudly, before saying, "Now come, I believe I heard something about fresh clothes in the caravan. You did remember to bring a change with you right?" He asked with a friendly smile.

"I dunno," Kaden said with a shrug, picking up one and looking at it carefully. "Its soft, I'll say that," He said with a curious squeeze. "Maybe its some kind of pillow or cleaning utensil for the bathroom." Standing back up, he stretched before saying, "Do we wanna show the others, or keep exploring? Next time you can crash into the closets."

Sias sighed "you two need to calm down . Same side , remember." he criticized, putting down some candles and having a look in the ice box "we've got some iced milk... a lot of it.In fact that's all that's in here" he said as he shut the door and had a look into the pantry and found the jars. Moving some out the way he found some coco powder and some standard baking supplies , but nothing useful and most had mould , so was uneatable anyway. The cutlery section yielded baby plastic spoons , forks and knives and plates. What kind of inn was this place.

Takumi scowled "why you Nohrian smug little...." he trailed off as he picked up his bow and was stopped by Corrin and his legendary diplomacy. "I'll show you how a Hoshidan prince fights , let a lone how he eats" he said going back to a sulking pout after that jab , he wasn't as quick with words or wit to take him on in insults. Just react to them. "Fine fine I'll look upstairs. Ohi , book worm. You're with me. I'm not letting some lazy prince get away with doing no work" he said , using his bow to jab him softly in the cheek.

Hayato nodded and got up to his feet "Yea , I'm always prepared. Slay darkness , from what I've heard you shout at the dark and name a lot of things. I'm not familier with Nohrian magic but you must be some sort of master to create new magics while practising" he said , arriving at the wrong conclusion from Odin's behaviour.

Keaton frowned "too thin , and it folds out....Dunno what it could be. Maybe it's one of those mop things. They use em to wax floors , like they put stuff on then push it along in lines to make the floor shiny. Not that this place needs it" he said looking around at the perfectly dusty hallway, now lit with a few candles. "eh , they'll figure it out. They know best for human needs. We should clean it up though. Don't want them getting mad at us" he said putting a few back as neatly as he could.
