Family Time

Jack awoke to the sound of thunder. It was early, but no so early that it was unreasonable for a 5 year old to be up. That felt weird thinking about. Not even a week ago Jack had turned 5! And yet, he still hadn't left certain "babyish" habits and tendencies behind. His binky, stuffed dog, sucking his thumb, diapers, to name a few... the kid had big green eyes, and chestnut brown hair in a short, shaggy sort of surfer style haircut. He also wore captain America pajamas, and had a similar bedspread and pillow cases.

Another thunder clap elicited a small yelp from the boy, and he felt his diaper grow warm. He sighed, and hugging his stuffed dog, he climbed out of his bed. The kid sucked on his binky and hugged his stuffed dog into his chest as he walked towards the door. He pushed it open and darted out, down the hall to daddy's room. He creaked the door open, and in a second he had climbed into bed with him and gotten under the covers, snuggling up against his father.

Ben was fast asleep, but started to slowly wake up when he heard the door open. He had gotten used to the sounds of thunder, but with Jack he had become a lot more aware of unnatural sounds. He slowly opened up his eyes when he felt the bed creak, only to find his son there, deep under the covers.

He reached his arms around him and gave him a hug. "It's okay, honey. You're safe here with daddy." he said, rubbing his back, hoping that he could comfort him back to sleep.

Jack smiled and nodded. "I'm not scared daddy." He assured him in a low voice, although the fact that he hugged him tighter and snuggled closer every time there was a flash or thunder was a dead give away. He closed his eyes and sucked on his binky, trying to go back to sleep. Eventually, surrounded by warmth, he began to feel safe and drift off into sleep...

He smiled some more. "I know, honey." he said, rubbing his back more. Once he finally fell asleep, he smiled and decided to go back to sleep himself, and soon enough the two of them were back asleep.

Jack awoke a while later. The storm hadn't stopped, but it was a lot lighter in the room, and the sky had turned from pitch black to a dark grey overcast. Light filtered through the blinds, and he stretched a bit and yawned. He climbed up onto his Daddy's chest under the blankets and laid there, hugging him happily.

Soon enough, he woke up as well, and smiled down at Jack. "Good morning, buddy. Did you sleep well?" he asked, rubbing his back and slowly sitting up.

"Uh huh." Jack said with a tired yawn, rubbing his eyes sleepily. He had a bad case of bedhead, his hair sticking up every which way, his pajamas disheveled and his binky in he looked exhausted still. He hugged his daddy, making it clear he would have to be carried wherever, as he didn't plan on walking at all. He was too tired.

He smiled back at him, slowly getting up out of bed with him, pulling him up into his arms. As he held him there, he rubbed his back. "Let's go get you freshened up." he said, noticing all of that, as well as his wet diaper.

As he walked back to his room, he saw how rainy it was outside still. "How would you like to have a PJ day today?" he offered, going over to the changing table that he still left in the room, since he had yet to stop using it.

"Okay daddy." The boy said, rubbing his eyes again and yawning. His binky fell out when he yawned, but luckily he caught it and popped it back in. He held his stuffed dog in one hand, just holding onto one of its legs.
"PJ day!" The boy cheered, obviously in favor, wriggling in excitement as he was laid on the changing table.

He smiled back at him as he laid him down. "Now, do you want to keep these PJs, or get all new ones?" he asked as he gently took off the Captain America PJ pants, getting ready to change his diaper.
