Infiltration was not a simple task. To replace a pony, one had to study them. Learn of them. Every one of their idiosyncrasies and tells. Habits and schedules. If a pony gulped when they lied, an infiltrator had to make it their habit too. If they went to the bathroom every day between 2 and 3 PM, it had to be. Make no mistake: For a changeling, infiltration isn't just putting on a disguise to look like somepony, or even making a whole new identity. It was a difficult, exhaustive process of observation that, over the years of changeling infiltration into pony society to steal their love, has been distilled into a science.

Xanthe had been stalking this pony for a week. Right now, she should be asleep. Meanwhile, he lingered in her shop, 'burrowing' her set of cards, trying to learn the rules of this card game she played. If he was going to replace her, he had to learn its rules at the minimum.

This certain pony, known as Poofy Padding, had suspected that someone was stalking her for awhile now. A figure that would always turn away when she looked towards it, things being moved around her house, it was all rather suspicious. Today, she vowed to catch the perpetrator. She acted like she fell asleep and, once she was sure that the pony was convinced, Poofy snuck back downstairs to see what her stalker was up to.

"Come on come on..." Poofy could hear someone muttering. It was hard to see anything as the lights were off and there was no source of light at all. Sounds like whoever was down there was concentrating on something.

Xanthe suddenly realized he wasn't alone. Fortunately the lights were not on, so they couldn't see. This was bad. That was Poofy's voice, too. It's too soon to capture her, and Poofy is a unicorn. A direct confrontation wouldn't go well.

Maybe if he was really quiet, he could hide until she went away. With that in mind, he quietly got up and attempted to sneak to a quiet spot in the basement to hide.

Poofy heard a rustling in the dark, firing the stunning spell in the direction of the noise. She then used a lighting spell to illuminate every corner of the room, wanting to be sure this person didn't get away.

Apparently not too quietly. Xanthe only managed a yelp in alarm as the stunning spell struck him, leaving him immobile, but otherwise conscious. The lightning spell allowed Poofy to catch a glimpse of the pony-like figure in her basement, certainly its location.

This was it, he thought. After the Battle of Canterlot, infiltration has only been made harder for everyling as everypony was now not only aware of their existence, but suspicious. He was going to the dungeons for sure.

Upon seeing what had been stalking her all this time, Poofy recoiled in shock. The chitinous covering, the holes in it's legs, the insectile wings....this was a changeling. A changeling had been stalking her! She hesitantly approached the bug, keeping another stunning spell ready. The light allowed the changeling to see that poofy was wearing nothing except a rather thick and girly diaper. "Who are you and what're you doing in my home?"

"Um, hi." The changeling smiled weakly, legs twitching as feeling slowly returned to them. Not enough to stand yet. "I-um, was...just passing through and..." He sighed, ears folding against his head. That excuse sounded as hollow in his own ears as it probably did to hers. "I was going to replace you and steal your love." He admitted, sighing, defeated.

"It sounds bad. I know. But...we do what we have to do to survive. Just...please. Please don't tell anyling I was here. You don't know what Celestia does to us." He didn't know either, but there were rumors, enough to make him sound frightened. "I-if you want, I can help straighten up, then i'll leave. First thing. You'll never see me again, honest!"

Poofy was tempted to let the bug go. Very tempted. But as she opened her mouth to speak, she had an idea. "You'll be able to leave, eventually. But until then, I have an idea that I don't think you're gonna like. I've gotta go get some things, stay here until I get back." She smiled and waddled upstairs to grab the things she needed.
