In the summer of 103 After Ang, Fire Lord Zuko is visiting a city to handle some issues going on with a separatist group. Along with him is his recently released younger sister Princess Azula, once removed. They enter the city's Agni Kai arena as the town's guide is kissing the Fire Lord's ass. "Our city produces many aspiring young fire benders. Some even move on to the Kingdom Agni Kai league" He says to the young Fire Lord. "Here comes our current champion to start for a quick showcase. They have the champion come to take on a rookie to break them in and to show off to the audience." A large man walks out he looks intimidating as hell with each breath he takes producing embers." Quite impressive huh Lord Zuko?" Zuko feels very uncomfortable given his history with Agni Kais. He's even thinking of having them banned. "Look here comes the poor bastard that's gonna be sleeping in an ice bath tonight" the city rep says laughing as a young man around age 16 steps out. His eyes bright golden. His face young and smooth. His hair long and black held in a pony tail to not get caught in flames. He comes out looking very nervous. "Now for the fun" the battle begins and the champion moves in bursting a wall of fire from his mouth with a battle cry. The young man enters a defensive stance and uses a fire pillar to block and waits for the champion to come through the wall of fire. Once he does the young man raises his leg and hits the champion with a flaming axe kick sending the champion to the floor and brings his hand down for a flaming slap to the back. By rules of Agni Kai, this ends the fight as the victory conditions are to burn your opponent. No one said it had to be a brutal 3rd degree burn. "WHAAAAT!? WHAT JUST HAPPENED" the city rep asks in complete shock. Zuko shakes his head getting up to leave with the city rep following.

Azula looked at the young man with interest. It was unusual for an Agni Kai duelist to show such restraint. She wanted to speak with him assuming her brother would permit it. “Brother, a word?”

Zuko, honestly more desperate to have a semi stable family at least, tended to give in to his former rival's whims when asking for nothing that would cause her to relapse or harm others. He turned to the city rep. "Please escort princess Azula to meet with that young bender"

“Thank you brother.” The relationship between the siblings was still tense at best. Although Azula was significantly more sane now, she was also very standoffish only appearing when asked and rarely speaking more than necessary. She hated that her brother sent guards with her, but she knew why he did. She approached the young bender’s tent and asked for entry.

"Um sure go ahead" the young bender was in the middle of doing his of cooling down after the excitment of his victory. He hasn't even put his shirt back on. He didn't recognize the voice on the other side of the tent but figured it was probably someone rich or something. He recognized those of higher wealth tended to speak differently then what he was used to growing up an orphan in the city. He was self taught in his firebending so he knew when someone was higher class

Azula entered the tent and looked around a bit. “That was an impressive match. I’ve never seen such restraint, save for my brother.” She’d heard about his duel with Zhao from some of Zhao’s men who’d been absorbed into her fleet after his mysterious disappearance during the Siege of the North.

"It was nothing. Going overboard is just a waste of energy. You don't know when your next fight will be so why blow everything all at once" he said. So he didn't just do the bare minimum due to some code of honor or some shit Zuko would say. There was an actual logical explanation for it.
