Edo Castle, the home of the shogunate and his retainers, certainly was quite imposing on all fronts. Of course there were plenty of stories about it, especially with regards to women.

Japan, while historically a patriarchal society in most versions of the world, had a select few where the women had had to step in for whatever reason.

Furthermore, across all versions, the lines regarding gender norms could often blur, an act that the few Europeans allowed access into the country were surprised by.

Even so, no one would have thought there might be such a time when the women took over out of pure necessity.

The reason for that started with an unsanctioned excursion by two figures, traveling back in time on the rendition of Earth they lived on.
