coping, and if diapers were socially acceptable (rant)
i have been thinking about this for a long time now. diapers are not socially acceptable, they are viewed as dirty, unclean, messy. this is understandable, as we are carrying waste that we would rather never have near us normally around our waists. but there are plenty of people, more that care to admit that wear diapers everyday, and strangers rarely look down at that sort of thing if they notice it, ab/dl or not. the main issue for most people comes from who you know, and how they may react to the whole deal, if they think its gross, and how you would never hear the end of it if they knew. it might even scare off people you are trying to get to know or meet.
but what about those people
you know, the people that wear by choice, not for a fetish, and not for any real reason other than the fact that it is convenient. those people that have friends that dont mind, and that dont go to websites like this to talk to others with a "like mind". those people that can shrug off anyone noticing their diapered state. and those people, that you wish you could gain the courage to walk the same road. you almost want to go and try it out, and hope things go well. but it is easy to be overcome with grief and worry about what would happen in your own life, and how people would treat you if you would dare to try such a thing. after all, people find the fetish pretty weird http://lifestyle.iafrica.com/love_se...es/735973.html
things could go one of two ways you think, one way, it would be great, you wouldnt have to worry about hiding your interest or usage any more. but on the other hand, the negatives could be really, really bad. life has no undo button, so there would be no turning back. there is some reassuring information on a few sites about adult diaper usage going up. reading it is really encouraging to continue on with our interest. just look at this article... this was on a non-diaper site by a writer for consumer joe, los angeles times, and wired magazine. internet anomaly has helped us draw a true picture of what many people do. just look at the comments http://www.pauldavidson.net/2006/10/...he-rest-of-us/
people want to choose, but most of the time they want to stick to the norm, because going the other way would be really, really hard. they dont have the motivation, or the will to do as they truly wish. this not only applies to liking diapers, but also to many other things as well. we all have guilty pleasures, but why must they be guilty? can we not like what we like, and not be looked down upon for it? it seems that society as a whole is condescending when you enjoy certain things. you hear people say "to each their own", and "it isn't hurting anyone" as catchphrases. but most people will deviate from these words and judge when something truly different comes along.
there may not be a time when wearing a diaper is socially acceptable, there may not be a time when wearing a diaper wont reduce your dignity, and people will always judge to some extent. but damn, we also need to start accepting this ourself. i am a crazily timid person for the most part, so i know personally, that this may not be easy. but people dislike timidity, they see timidness and they assume weakness. people who are proud, or have a goal, or a strong view tend to have charisma. something that is a very key aspect to getting anyone to accept anything at all. if you act proud, if you establish a goal, or if you are all for what you are doing, people will accept it considerably more. and that may be the factor you are looking for if you want to tip the scales in your favor...
many people dislike things because society told them to. think of some things that almost everyone hates. i imagine most of you here hate twilight, right? and you probably think that twilight fans are annoying, and that you would never enjoy that "crap" in your lifetime. but how many of you actually read it? i know i didnt. how many of you actually decided to check it out with an open mind? your mind gets biased by popular opinions, which is where hiveminds come from. if you read it and thought it sucks, if you saw the movie and thought it sucks, that is your own opinion. allow me to emphasize, that is your opinion. if you heard it was bad, well, that would give you a heads up you might want to avoid it. which means that you should have no opinion at all, but you think it is "probably" bad. again, that is your thought. but what most of us would do is assume the same opinion as our peers. that is not your opinion. that is joining a hivemind.
people will never realize this though, which is unfortunate. because the general consensus with diapers are that they are disgusting, unless they are needed and empty. one thing that breaks hiveminds though, is charisma. and how does one acquire charisma? pride, or a strong view, or goal. enjoy what you like dammit, and if the worst comes to pass, be proud of every moment you have to endure. you are withholding your own opinion, and you just might find that some people may join you.

Nicely written. However there are some factors not mentioned. Sewage systems and toilets where made to properly dispose of the waste as it "can" cause potential harm and would be unhealthy if left alone. Diapers where created for those who can't make it to the toilet. They are however still considered unsanitary, since they are disposable and end up in a landfill.
Edit: Cloth diapers are also considered unsanitary as well, because proper cleaning procedures would need to be done. If not, it can cause diseases to spread and create an apedemic if not handled properly.
Also, some people see it as gross because, thats how they see it. Not because thats how society sees it.
Example: No one told me throwing up was gross, but I can't stand it. It makes me sick to my stomach just imagining it. So those who have that fetish, I would see as gross and I certainly couldn't accept it. Everyone is hard wired with likes and dislikes. Everyone is different and sometimes it can be hard to just accept it as if it's nothing. Harming someone is not a requirment to disliking something and not wanting to be around it. Many factors come into play. Much has to do with psychological and biological factors.
On a side note, if it was just accepted by everyone. You probably wouldn't enjoy it as much as you do now. The tabu factor plays a large part in enjoyment even if you don't realize it. Matter of fact, this fetish probably wouldn't even exist as it is today if everyone accepted it or saw it as normal.
Just my 2 cents.
I am one of the unusual people out there that understands others even if it goes against my likes or beliefs. I am good at stepping in other peoples shoes and imagining if I was them. I would probably make a great detective, or so I been told.

thanks brabbit. =)
in places like japan, they actually use diapers as fuel for things since the matter is all organic. so it would not fill up landfill, but instead aid with sources of energy.
in the end, there are many factors for and against diapers. there are so many factors, i could not possibly list them all.

well yes. but my post was mostly in reference to those that dont, because many dont. those that do on their own would always have a problem with diapered people. much like how homophobics would always have a problem with homosexual people. but homosexuals are being accepted to a far greater extent than before. which is where my point came into play.
thanks for the feedback though. i was worried that there would be no real feedback on my "little" rant. =D
it was mostly intended for those who have trouble accepting what they are or are stressed about hiding or being found out. you are one of the few people that this whole thing would not really help much since with you i am pretty much preaching to the choir. =p

Well to say least, I do understand what you are talking about. I also read that about Japan. It's good they are coming up with other methods.
