Joe Satriani is suing Coldplay. That's awesome. (Don't get my wrong I like Coldplay, but Satch has a good reason, take a look):

if he's so hurt over it, why didn't he file a law suit earlier
Idk, like maybe when the song came out. I think he's just looking for money out of this mainly

Well, they do actually sound quite literally the same. You'll see what I mean when you see this video, they're played at the same time. It almost doesn't seem like a coincidence.

And to be honest, I've known about Joe Satriani for quite a while, but I heard Viva la Vida before I heard If I Could Fly, and that's what made me want to listen to it. And If I Could Fly was released 4 years ago so its not like they couldn't have gained inspiration from Satch or something. Viva la Vida is a technically simple song so theres a possibility that its a rip off. That happens all the time in the music industry. I hated Vanilla Ice after hearing him steal "Under Pressure" from Queen, well I hate rap anyway.

I never said I liked Vanilla Ice. I don't and never did like rap. I said that I hated Vanilla Ice after he stole Under Pressure because that's one of my favorite songs ever. I never even cared for Vanilla Ice.

I like Satrianis music, but he's really just being an ass now.
It's idiots like he, who makes the music in the world go weirder and weirder, since everyone is so afraid to "rip someone off", that they don't dare doing simple melodies. (Not because simple is better, necessarily, but I really don't think, that making music should be that damn hard, just because someone rich enough to afford a life in luxury is going to be itchy if you make a tiny mistake).

Satch does it for the music as a matter of FACT. He's not the kind of guy that does it for money. I've seen enough videos of him to know how humble he actually is. He doesn't want to be in the spotlight 24/7 either. I've seen him play rhythm as well with an up and coming rockstar. He's doing this out of anger and he has the right to sue, seeing as how Coldplay's Viva la Vida is their first popular really well known song and they're basically getting mainstream credit for an unintentional remake of If I Could Fly(which is a way better song anyway.)

Suing them just sound kind of drastic to me. I know that you use lawsuits to handle things more in America, than most other places, but still, requiring money for loss of good mood really isn't something I'd accept, if I were the one who made the rules. He could just ask them to pull the song away from the market.

That would work too, but maybe there's more to it than that. Maybe he wrote it for a loved one, or someone he lost.
