Nola Fisher was not, in and of herself, a particularly unusual woman. She was a single mother due to an unfortunate car accident that cost her husband's life, but she had made her peace with that and achieved financial security and stability on her own. She lived in a medium-sized, comfortable house and worked from home, so that she was never too far away from her daughter, who she loved more than anything else in the world.

It was this daughter whose room she was entering quietly now to check on at 10:00 AM.

The room had been painted a deep sky blue all over, but Nola had spent several days making the room stand out a little more than that; golden stars and moons festooned the walls and ceiling, based on a template but each painted on by hand. In the evening, Nola liked to think it made the room look like the night sky. There was a large dresser not far from the door, as well as a large baby's changing table not far from the crib in the center of the room. There was a little bookshelf, as well as a box of toys and stuffed animals, and even a large playpen. Nola had also covered the floor in a large, fluffy white carpet to make the floor soft and warm.

None of these things would have been very out of place if Nola's daughter was still a baby, but the thing that was out of the ordinary was that she was not...or at least, not in the traditional sense.

Clover layed in her crib. Her face full of content. her slow and steady breathing and soft gentle sucks to her binky told you she had slept very peacefully. her long raven black hair was all frizzed and untidy, her covers haphazardly tossed to the side, and empty bottle from last nights dinner was on the floor. There was a slight smell coming from her.

Nola smiled, coming over to Clover's crib and gently lifting the skirt of the light blue nightie she'd put her in last night to check on the diaper underneath.

Underneath the skirt was a very bulky cloth diaper, the white fabric held in place with a pair of heart-shaped safety pins. However, both Nola and Clover had agreed that cloth diapers were a little dull to look at, and so Nola was sure to put on a diaper cover whenever Clover was wearing her cloth diapers. The one Clover was wearing at this particular moment was bright pink in contrast to the nightie, with white frills around the openings for Clover's legs and covering her bottom. On the front was a large yellow star, perhaps a little more yellow than usual now that the diaper beneath the diaper cover had been used quite a bit, distorting its shape somewhat.

Nola smiled, rubbing Clover's tummy. She'd let her daughter sleep in her crib and diapers forever if it meant coming in every morning to see her little angel sleeping so peacefully...still, she needed a change quite badly, if the lumpy mess beneath the white lacey frills on the diaper cover's rump was any indication.

Clover was a heavy sleeper so a change would most likely not wake her. As you rubbed her tummy her leg twitched.

Nola gently took off Clover's diaper cover, checking its condition. It was still clean, so it could go on over the clean diaper. That was good, she and Clover both liked this one.

Fishing out a new cloth diaper and some cleaning supplies, Nola got to work right there in the crib. Opening the messy diaper, Nola drew out some moist baby wipes, and with a gentle touch only a mother possessed, delicately wiped away the cold, stinky mess sticking to her daughter. When this was done, she took the soiled cloth out from under Clover and rolled it up, depositing it in the diaper pail to be cleaned later. Lifting Clover's legs, Nola set her daughter's bottom down on a thick, clean new cloth diaper and rubbed in oil as well as sweet-smelling baby powder. As she folded up the cloth diaper, she again got out the safety pins with hearts at the top and used these to fasten the cloth diaper securely before she replaced the diaper cover.

She made a quick check to make sure Clover hadn't woken up. Her daughter, like a real baby, needed lots of sleep, and Nola was all too happy to make sure she got it.

Clover had woken up. well to be more accurate she was waking up.

Nola checked the clock. 10:30...about the right time for her to wake up. It was all right, then...

She smiled, hugging Clover.

"Good morning, sweetie." She said happily.

'' morning mama. ummm didn't I have school today? " Clover asked. Clover wasn't stupid. Far from it actually. She was extremely smart, so much so that she was in 10th grade instead of 7th.

"You do, but we had enough snow last night for a 90 minute delay. I thought I'd let you sleep a little longer." Nola explained, kissing her sleepy daughter on the cheek.
