*Spoilers if you haven't seen all of Legend of Korra season 3*

Korra sighed as she looked out over the bay to Republic City, the vines still encroached in the houses and streets. There wasn't much she could do about them beforehand, and now... She felt her eyes water at the agreement between her and the president. She was welcomed back now, but... not at this cost.

Her face turned down away from the window and towards her hands in her lap. Underneath, she could feel thick padding against her hands but... She had to look up, or she knew she would start tearing up again. It had been a couple weeks since the fight with Zahir and the Red Lotus that left her in her current state, but... it was still hard for her, though she tried to stay strong.

Korra wiped her face of tears and began to wheel herself around and away from the window, she had to get her mind off of this... this feeling...

Pema was not the only person worried about poor Korra in Republic City but unlike others, who worried about the balance of the world now that the Avatar was confined to a wheelchair, her was of a far more personal nature. She fretted about the teenage girl as any mother would about their child, focusing less on her disability and more on the malaise it had left in. Ever since Korra had moved to Republic city for training Pema had viewed her as part of the family and now she worried that that very part of her family was spiraling further and further out of control.

Coming in to Korra's bedroom she saw the dark skinned girl from the Water Tribe rolling around the room in her wheelchair aimlessly, provoking disappointed sigh. No change it seems. Coming in she said "Hi dear, how're we doing? What do you say we go outside today? Meelo's going to try and duel his father again today so he can become a master like Janora. Wanna go watch?"

Korra noticed Pema and slowly looked up at her, smiling weakly before giving her a nod and turning the chair to face the door. Her face turned away again, away from Pema and towards her lap again. She had barely managed to watch Jinora's ceremony, the words from Tenzin made her conflicted... as Avatar, she had helped save the Air Nation, after having brought it back unintentionally. But... but he was right, she can't save anyone like this! Especially with the Earth Kingdom in such disarray, she needed to be...

Her eyes watered a bit more before she cut the line of thought and tried to look towards the door and away from Pema as she began rolling herself out.

"Hey, hey, you don't have to worry about that. I'll push you." Pema tittered in a motherly way as she hurried over to the girl's chair. Seeing Korra's hesitant look down towards her lap Pema softened and wanted to say something reassuring but could think of nothing. Instead she crouched down in front of Korra and in a hushed voice said "Um, Korra, before we go I think it'd be best if I just check something first."

With that the mother of four reached forward and pulled the navy blue Water Tribe blanket back to reveal the large disposable diaper taped around her waist. Whilst staying on Air Temple Island and their were no guests they had decided to leave Korra pants less under the blanket, making checks and changes far easier. With years of experience with diapers Pema looked at it and decided it was in no dire need of a change, but for accuracy's sake she reached between Korra's muscular thighs and squeezed the material to see just how wet she was.

Korra stopped moving as Pema moved behind her, wanting to say thanks but unsure if her voice might crack. She had gotten used to some of them pushing her whenever they invited her somewhere, Asami did as well at Jinora's master ceremony. Her eyes widened as Pema moved in front of her, and quickly tried wiping her eyes, embarrassed to have been caught like this as well. She gave a small nod as she felt her blanket removed and heard Pema squeeze the diaper.

Korra had wet it about half an hour ago, not that she could tell, but from Pema's expression she knew she must have gone. Her hand went back up to her blushing face as she looked away again. Dealing with not having control of something like that was... was almost worse, but more in an embarrassing way for her. She had helped Pema out a few times changing her newest, but... She didn't expect to be needing her own diapers changed.

"It's ok Korra, there's nothing to be embarrassed about." Pema reassured her as she let go and pulled the blanket back up to cover the girl's waist "You're only a little wet so we'll change you when we get back." Getting behind the chair she pushed the chair out of the room and toward the open training square. Looking down at the distraught girl Pema squeezed her shoulder with one hair and tried to calm her down by saying "You're just healing dear. Those Red Lotus fanatics did something horrible to you and it'll take some time to recover. You'll be out of those things once you're healed, I'm sure of it, but until then don't pay them any mind."

Korra nodded, adjusting the blanket a little more once Pema was behind her again. She felt a little better that she was only wet, thinking she'd have permanent red cheeks after her first messy diaper, she felt awful when they had to change her. Korra couldn't feel anything down there still, though she could smell when she was messy given enough time, so they checked her periodically.

On their way out, when Korra felt and heard Pema, she nodded and reached to touch her hand, "Thank... you." She stammered softly, her voice off still. Korra did try and take what Pema said to heart, but... She sighed and gripped Pema's hand a little harder, not enough to hurt, but enough to try and pass on her conflict inside of her.

Pema nodded, more to herself than anything, and simply focused on getting her to the open air and good company. It didn't take long to get her there and the moment she entered every one of the Air Benders and Air Nomads bowed in reverence to the Avatar, though Pema had hoped they wouldn't out of worry that Korra would simply see it as pity. Parking the chair at the center of the sidelines the older woman pulled a chair up next to Korra and smiled as she sat with her.

"Hey Korra!" Kiki shouted as she glided over to Korra and landed next to her. "How're you feeling? I can't believe Meelo thinks he can beat Daddy, I told him bu-" she started before being interrupted by a loud shout.

"KOOORRAAA!" Meelo bellowed whist waving to her. "Watch me kick butt!"

Korra looked away from the people bowing, it had always bugged her and now even more so. She sighed and smiled back at them weakly with a look that she hoped read a polite thank you. She owed them her life and it felt wrong almost, to be receiving them. She'd talk to someone about it later... Maybe they could help, or at least kindly explain that a wave is acceptable. Korra was a bit short on words as of late.

Except for these two, she managed a real smile, not a large one, but a real one. "I'm okay, Ikki." She wiped her eyes one last time and took a deep breath as Meelo yelled to her. Korra gave him a small wave before adjusting the blanket one last time. "How are you?" She asked, trying to keep her talking and focused off her. Korra looked back over at Pema and let her see her tired smile.

"I'm good. It's just so annoying that Jinora is a master alread.! I mean I'm really good too!" Ikki said in quite the childish tone, as she crawled up and sat on Korra's legs. The eight-year-old enjoyed the extra height boost it afforded her as well as the comfort of being close to Korra, whom she'd always liked and needed the attention more than ever.

Just then Tenzin's came forward and entered the ring, his face set in determination as he focused on the duel ahead. Pema knew she had no need to worry about him taking it easy on Meelo but never the less he felt different before a duel and it always made her into a nervous worrywart mother.
