After a decade of sexual frustration, The king, Louis XVI, and his wife, Marie Antoinette, had finally consummated their marriage by giving birth to a child. Granted, it was a daughter, but it was a step in the right direction. The newborn princess, Marie Therese, had been shephered for an impromptu christening before being handed back to her mother. "Give her to me," Marie said, starting to regain her strength.

The king had been out hunting , a rather favourite past time of his until being strongly advised to tend to marital duties. He had seen enough of roumers of his own infertility in the papers and didn't want that to dog him for much longer. He had been rather unconcerned with his wife as of late , doing more to satisfy his public opinion and bring france truly to the standards of the renaissance. So far it was not going well and was doing his best to work with the council on many new laws and reforms he could easily pass , if not for the backlash and unseen consequences he was being warned about. Louis had some annoyance at being called back . But he had done his duty in confirming it was the fruit of his loins. He supposed he shouldn't be too surprised Marie would want her back so soon. It was probably for the best for now but he would rather get back to doing something where he was more than just an observer.

Marie smiled and took the child from her husband and the maid who had been carrying her. She looked over at her daughter, Marie Therese. "Hello there, little one. This is your mother." She leaned down and kissed her forehead tenderly. "I'll be here for you, you truly are mine." She then proceeded to follow maternal instinct and began to open up her nightgown so that she could nurse. Of course, this was a blatant act against protocol, as all royal children would be fed by a wet nurse, and the maid looked quite concerned.

Louis couldn't care less what was going on with his wife and child. He would only be deciding things in terms of education and betrothals. Since it wasn't a male heir he wouldn't have to tutor them personally. He decided to immerse himself in his thoughts and considerations for the next council meeting ,along with some more smaller concerns about the running of the castle. The debts were piling up and any coin saved would relive the burden a little.

"Ma'am, what are you doing?" the maid asked. "I'm feeding my baby, what does it look like?" The maid stammered. "B-b-b-but this isn't how things are done! Every royal child is given to a wet nurse! Breastfeeding can prevent conception, after all." Marie rolled her eyes. "That's so absurd. Besides, it's a mother's job to take care of their child. I'm simply doing that." She brought her daughter to her waiting breast.

(I imagine we'll rotate with the children. As in this one is controlled by you, Louis Joseph, the eldest son, by me, and so on)

The king did not care for the petty squabbles of the lesser lives of court so left to peruse other interests. He was sure to find some way to hone his management or at least make himself more diplomatic around others. As the king left another entered the room. The duke of Normandy. A thin man with spindly limbs. He was tall and had a gaunt look about him. There was something of the north about him. Like a cold fog that blocked any and all readings of his emotion. Made what he said the only real thing one could use to know what he was thinking. He wore a purple and black coat, decorated with the lions of house Normandy , which had left some centuries under William the conquer. He glided to the queen's bedside. In more ways than one he was one of the more prominent vassals of the realm, and widely believed to be the kings spy master. "What a lovely baby girl you have your highness. I trust the king was satisfied with the birth" he said making gestures with his long hands. Looked like he had an extra bone in each finger. He had cold dark eyes and jet black hair , glimmering a little in the sunlight. Smoothed back it only exposed his pale skin. "But you aught to rest my lady . I'm sure you must be worn out from such an ordeal. Would be most dreadful for you to perish from such a great achievement" he said , each word dripping with sincerity.

Marie smiled a little bit. "Thank you, your excellency," she said. She kissed her daughter's forehead. She chuckled a little. "Well, I have been told that I should remain in this bed for about three weeks or so. I guess it's going to be nice." She moved Marie Therese, or simply Therese, to her other breast once she had finished there. The newborn princess suckled hungrily. When she was nice and full, Marie moved her over her shoulder and patted her back until she burped. Therese sighed and settled in. "I guess what they say is true," Marie said. "Once you have your own children, maternal instinct will guide the way. I'd been quite scared."
