Mother's House

The house stood at the end of the block. It loomed, dark and foreboding. There were rumors about the broekn down and abandoned house. Kids told stories about how people go in and they never come out. Occasionally crying can be heard from inside.

[PaddedPrinceling Joey]

It's four hundred dollars. Just a night. Four hundred dollars.

Joe kept repeating the same statement again and again. A camcorder in hand, Joe walked his way up to the door. Sounds inside the home often scared off children, and it did the same to many adults. This, though. This was a pay check, and he couldn't skip it. Not this time. Hand on the door knob, the twenty-four year old pushed open the door with a shove. Mild resistance, and he was on the inside, stepping slowly into the foyer.

Small footsteps could be heard dispersing around the house as the floor creaks.

"Look what we have here..." A feminine voice rang through the house.

Joe wasn't quite sure what was going on. The door remained open, but there was movement. Sound. Almost bemused by the sound of it. The young man shifted a little. "Kelsie? Bri? Jen?" he called aloud, figuring the propogators of the bet were the source of the noise. Into the home, he stepped up the stairs, attempting to locate the noise. "If its these cheap tricks you're trying, you should just pay up now!"

Instead a little girl peered around the corner. She had to have been no more than 2 years old. "You need to leave mister." The little girl told him. "Please." She pleaded.

Joe blinked at the little girl. Dressed as she was, she spoke really quite eloquently. The tyke seemed so much older than she really was. "Munchkin, what're you doing here?" asked the young man, closing the distance to the corner. Were there squatters living in the home? "Where's your mommy, little girl?" It was ever so simple. Find the squatters in the home. Have a friendly chat for the night; get paid.

There was a loud banging noise and the girl jumped in fright. "Just...please...get out of here...." She whispered and scurried away into the shadows.

The toddler begged her to leave, panicked before disappearing for herself. He'd even found himself jumping at noises now, the way the girl panicked. Getting back to his feet, he dipped down the corner and rounded into one of the rooms, closing the door slowly behind him. Blissfully, it seemed someone had been upkeeping it on the inside yet.

This room was a bedroom. As he looked around he could make out a bed, neatly made and not even dust on it. There were footsteps outside the door again, these were louder and more pronounced than the ones from earlier.

Jackpot. He'd found the home had to be lived in by squatters, and they'd managed to make a decent living for themselves. Biting his lip, he had to wonder. Was the girl living under the radar with an abusive parent? Was that why she was so panicked? Making his way toward the closet off to the side, the young man ceased. What was he doing? He was an adult! Being scared of someone living in a house like this shouldn't do just that, right? Stopping where he was, he turned to the door, camera readied. "First encounter with the inhabitant's assumed parent. May be abusive. Stay tuned."
