Shadow had recently been given time off from G.U.N and found that he was having a difficult transition to a more mundane existence. The hedgehog read a few books in peaceful solitude of his home, but as days went by he was beginning to feel like he was missing something fulfilling in his life. "...Perhaps I should try going for a run" He muttered to himself in his kitchen where he was currently rinsing his coffee mug he just drank from. He then placed it on the counter and sighed while looking out the window at the rolling green hills, thinking about how Sonic always tried to get him to come running and exploring with him. "...Maybe the inferior blue hedgehog is onto something" The striped one thought whilst he picked up the phone nearby, promptly calling Tails' workshop to see if Sonic was there, or if the fox knew where he could be found.

Nothing could make this any better than it already was.

Sonic was speeding through a couple of towns, stopping here and there for a few Chilidogs and fans and what not. The blur was currently zooming in a vast empty field, heading over to the Mystic Ruins in order to spend some time with his bro. Running was amazing and he normally would keep going until he was about to get tired-( I know, he never gets tired!)- but he decided to take a quick check up on his little brother. Tails had seemed to be on to some big idea before he left- sparing himself from the long speech and explaination..... Maybe he'd listen...

Nothing could make this better than it already was...

Tails wiped his brow after he had finished straightening up the house once again. Sonic seriously needed to learn to put things back in place... The kit retreated to his lab, giving his small little cubic box a glance over happily before again grunting annoyedly. Riiiiinnnggg....... Riiiiiinnnnng From the sound of it the phone had been ringing already, why was he just noticing it?

The kit put down the cube and left the lab, going into the kitchen and picking up the phone there. "Hello?" The kit asked sounding slightly preoccupied, which would be the case mentally..

Shadow felt a little nervous having never called his blue rival unless there happened to be some kind of emergency situation. But he was the ultimate life form so he took a breath and calmed himself rather quickly, just focusing on big puffy white clouds outside his window for the most part. "Oh, Tails? Yes, this is Shadow... I uhm... I was looking to speak with Sonic. Is he around?"

To say he was surprised would be an understatement. Tails instantly stopped all the calculations he was making his his head and focused on the voice, trying to determine it to actually be the anti-social hedgehog.... It wasn't a secret that Shadow was trying to be.... Less... Shadow-ish but Tails didn't expect to witness it first hand.... Espically not on a day when Eggman wasn't openly doing something. "... U-uh, Well right now he isn't, "

He dashed over a couple of thick tree stumps and even managed to make a few ramps so he could gain enough momentum to 'fly' before hitting the ground again and taking off.

A small was plastered on his muzzle as his destination was right infront of him. Win a couple of swirl ft moves, he'd be able to do a dramatic entrance.

"Come back-" " HIYA Tails!" Said person looked behind himself slowly before a knowing smirk appeared on his face. Sonic did always have excellent timing. "Never mind, he's here." Tails said as he handed the phone over to a curious blur. "It's Shadow." The kit said simply before retreating to his lab. Eyes showing slight shock and interest, Sinic put the phone to his ear.

"What's up Shads?"

Shadow was listening to Tails explain Sonic's whereabouts as he planned to head over to where the blur was as quickly as possible once he knew. But the striped hedgehog blinked in surprised when the phone was suddenly taken over by the cheery voice of the hero himself seemingly out of nowhere. "Oh, uh... Nothing much, Sonic." Shadow responded in a tone that hinted at some form of uncertainty. "I have some time off of work and I've kind of come to realize I don't really know what to do with myself... So I thought maybe I should take you up on what you're always offering me and perhaps ... join you for a run?" Shadow cringed once he said it, just hoping Sonic wouldn't make a big deal out of the situation

"Really? Gee, didn't know you wanted to loose on your day off so badly," the blur stated smugly, feet gittering for a run. This would make his run a little more.. Interesting... "Want me to zip over to you? Our are we gonna meet up?" He asked ready to race the other.

Shadow sighed and rolled his eyes at the blue one's proclivity for turning everything into a competition. He really should have known this was how Sonic would respond. "I wasn't really planning on a race" The striped one said now moving through his house to the living room "I wanted to run and explore with no strings attached... ...But if that's how you want it, we can meet in Windy Valley and you can eat my dust" He mentally slapped himself, cursing in his mind for always falling into Sonic's games even when he didn't want to

"Hehe, ok! I'll meet ya there! And maybe after I beat you, we can go sight seeing? I've found a couple of pretty cool places!" The blur replied back before he hung up the phone. "Hey Tails! I'm-" "I know, you're going for a run. See you when you get back!" The fox interjected knowingly, all the while finishing a couple of readjustments to his little cube. Sonic smirked before he calmly walked to the door, doing a count down in his head. As soon as he shut it, the blur took off! He knew he wouldn't have to explain the simple, pre-race rule....

Shadow sighed and shook his head yet again after Sonic hastily hung up the phone and was likely off on his way to Windy Valley already planning to beat him there. Well the dark hedgehog decided he wasn't going to let that happen. He wasn't even going to play fair because he didn't agree to the blue hedgehog's terms. And so he pulled out his green chaos emerald and shouted "Chaos control!" His command harnessing the energy to warp him to his chosen destination in a flash of light! Seconds latter he arrived and all that was left to do was wait for Sonic.

In a matter of 2 seconds, Sonic appeared by the other's side, a clou of dust long since dispersed. Arms cross, and a foot taping impatiently, the blur had a smug smirk on his face. "Really? That scared to loose?" The blur asked, before getting into a racing position. "No cheat codes, Shads." The blur said as he waited for his counterpart to get ready. This race wouldn't only lead them to Station square, but it would also give Shadow the tour he wanted.
