Max couldn't believe it. The rain poured down heavily on her and Kate as they both stood on the roof-top. Would Kate jump or not, "Please!" begged Max tears running down her face not knowing what to do or expect. Why did everyone push Kate this far? It wasn't fair or right! Eventually Kate moved away from the edge.

It had now been two hours since the 'accident' and Max sat outside on a stone wall. It was raining heavily still and wasn't going to stop anytime soon.

She couldn't find it within herself to do anything. Max sighed and opened her phone.

'Hey...so Kate nearly jumped off the roof two hours ago and I really need a hug right about now.' - Max sent the text to Chole knowing her best friend would be here in twenty or so minutes. At least she hoped.

Seeing Nathan out of the corner of her eye Max walked up to him, "Are you proud of yourself?" asked Max glaring at the boy.

"I would be if she jumped." replied Nathan with a smirk, "You know what would of been great is if you didn't stop Kate and you jumped right after her." he added.
Max already upset and hurt punched Nathan hard, "I've had it with you!" shouted Max.

Nathan punched Max back, hard.

The fight continued for another fifteen minutes until Nathan finally had Max pinned underneath him, "What you going do Max? That punk friend of yours isn't here to help you and no one's going to save your arse now are they? Maybe this will teach you what a loser you are and that you should stop bothering everyone especially Victoria." added Nathan punching Max hard in the face.

Blood fell from Max's nose as she breathed heavily her entire body in pain. She couldn't fight Nathan....he was to strong for her.

It took another 3 minutes for Chloe to show up. She had been speeding the whole way and found max with Nathan ontop of her in the parking lot. Chloe kicked Nathan off of max her boot connecting with the rich boy’s chin. She pulled max up. “If I ever see you hit her again” she screamed at him “ILL FUCKING KILL YOU” she shouted panting as she got max in the truck and began driving back to her place. “You alright Maxx need me to take you to the hospital? She asked befor parking the truck. She pulled the smaller girl into a hug. “Shhhh” she cooed

She kept max close while drove them back home. “Come on super max let’s get you to bed.” She said quietly as she got the girl up stairs stripped her wet clothes and let her wear one of her tee shirts. She pulled max under the covers before pulling her into a tight hug . “Shhh it’s all gonna seem better tomorrow.” She promised

When Chloe woke up her mom was making breakfast. “Max it’s time to wake up” she whispered gently shaking the girl’s shoulder.

Victoria was in her room. Thinking. She hadn’t talked to anyone in the vortex club. She was avoiding them and especially Nathan after what happened. She was thinking... a lot. And sighed as her alarm went off and she had to get up and face the day.

Max could barley hear anything that Chole was saying as she leaned against her weakly and started to cry. Her entire body hurt. Nothing was broken but she wasn't going to look pretty for the next couple of days or maybe even a week.

Max could barley understand what was going on except she was in Chole's house and wearing one of her shirts?

"C-Chole..." stammered Max holding onto her best friend tightly unable to stay away anymore.

The next morning Max woke up slowly. Her entire body was in pain and she found it hard to move, "Chole?" said Max, "N-Nathan he..." pausing Max looked around the room, "I owe you big time otherwise he might of done worse." added Max doing her best to sit up but it was hard and she was in a lot of pain.

She had a big bruise on her cheek and a couple of bruises here and there scattered around on her body from the fight but she was able to stand up, "C-could I stay with you later tonight? You could come and stay at my dorm? It should be okay I can get you a visitors pass or something." she added not liking the thought of being alone at all by herself giving what had happened with Nathan.

Meanwhile Nathan was more then pleased by what he had done to Max and walked to Victoria's room. Knocking loudly he smirked, "Hey Vic I sorted out our little problem for you," he said, "the little brat probably won't even show her face today after what I did." he added smugly.

“Of course I’ll stay with you” she smiled “and if that freak tries to hit you again I’ll beat him senseless” she said hugging the girl again. She supported max the whole way down the stairs and sat her at the table. David was working at the school early after what happened with Kate.

Joyce lost her composure completely when she saw max “what happened” she asked horrorified to see how injured the girl was. She went over to inspect her.

“That freak Nathan beat her up after school yesterday” she said reluctantly.

Joyce wanted to call the school but she knew Nathan was nearly untouchable at the school. She heard her husband complain about it all the time.



Victoria blinked taken aback. Brat? There was only two people she considered to be brats.... and she doubted Nathan did anything else too kate ..... “what did you do Nathan?” She asked keeping her voice flat. Max was many things physically strong wasn’t one of them. She knew the girl was naive and quick to anger. Who knows how the two of them went at each other... when he eloborated what happened. She worked carefully to mask her mounting horror. “Nathan I still kind of need to be alone right not” she apologized closing her door and sitting on her bed somewhat catatonic. “What am I gonna do.”

Max hugged Chole back, "I kind of started it because he wouldn't stop talking about Kate a-and things just continued after that." sighed Max, "My powers wouldn't work at all and I already felt weak from using them after getting to Kate." she added clinging to Chole for comfort as she leaned against her for support.

How was Joyce going to react to all this? She was thankful that David got up early to go to work otherwise he would likely end up kicking the shit out of Nathan somehow.

Max looked at Joyce and then looked away, "I-I'm okay nothings broken at least I'm just a bit beat up." sighed Max as she watched Joyce go phone the school, "It would be great if we could take Nathan down a peg or two but I doubt that will ever happen the only family as powerful if not more powerful then Nathan's is Victoria's and they always have each others backs." added Max with a annoyed sigh.

"I'm kinda hungry and I don't want to miss class even if I do want to go back to bed with you right now and I'm already in enough trouble with Jefferson."

Nathan tilted his head a little confused by Victoria's action, "Sure? I guess that's okay but if Max starts to annoy you or me or anyone in the club again I promise she'll get worse." he added strongly with a smile believing he was doing the right thing, "See ya in class!"

Joyce hung up as she went to sit with the girls and eat some pancakes she stacked on all their plates. “Well eat up and Chloe will drop you off at school.”

Chloe smiled “I’ll wait in your dorm room” she told max. Giving the smaller girl another hug as she dug into her own breakfast.

After the filling breakfast Chloe got max a pair of her old jeans and a blue butterfly tee shirt with little frills on the sleeves. “That should fit.” She said smiling and reassuringly. After max was dressed they got into Chloe’s truck and drove to the school.

She dropped max at the school building then went to wait in Max’s dorm.




Victoria sighed as she called her dad. She told him Nathan did something bad and she wanted him to get a suspension. “Just for a couple days. Thanks don’t let them know it was my fault” she sighed hanging up. She got up and got ready for class. maybe she’d see max get an idea how bad Nathan beat her up.

When she got their Jefferson was waiting at the front of the class. With a list written up. “ I’m going to pair you up for a photography project you should go sit with your partner.” He said firmly “ you’ll have a lot of time to work on it.” He reassured them as he began listing off pairs till he got to “Victoria and max”

At that point in class the intercom announced “Nathan Prescott come to the principles office”

Max ate her pancakes slowly. Her jaw hurt and she found it hard to wolf down her food like she normally would and smiled at Joyce, "Thanks for the food!" said Max grinning despite the pain she felt currently. Looking at Chole she smiled again.

Getting dressed into a pair of old jeans and a tee-shirt by Chole caused Max to blush but she did need help getting dressed. Max seeing the bruises on her stomach winced at how bad they were Nathan really did a number on her, "Kinda childish but yeah it'll do! Thanks Chole I wouldn't know what I would do without you."

Arriving to class Max was a few minutes late and had heard Nathan's name over the intercom. Was he in trouble? Seeing Nathan in the hall Max kept her head down not wanting to deal with him at all.

Nathan on the other hand slammed himself against Max causing her to fall as he walked to the office.

Max on the floor winced and tried her best not to cry from the pain and walked into class, "Max your are going to be with Vic...." Jefferson paused in shock, "What happened?" he asked his eyes gleaming partially wishing he was the one who had hurt Max.

"Nothing just a stupid fight." replied Max taking a seat next to Victoria but only because she had to.

Victoria frowned the girl looked awful. Nathan has done a real number on the girl. While Jefferson gave out the assignment outlines. she pulled a water bottle out of her designer bag followed by some aspirin. “Take this” she instructed the girl firmly “it’ll help with some of the pain” she said before eyeing the paper every group had a word and they had to make a collage of new photos to represent it.

She sighed as she looked over all the rules. She was avoiding initiating conversation. She wanted max to speed first. To be sure she doesn’t set her off.


Jefferson spoke up. “You have a lot of time to get this right but you have to be sure it gets done it’s a large part of your final grade” he smirked internally making max miserable was just oh so fun. He knew Victoria would make this even worse for the smaller brunette.

“Now do you. Can disscuss ideas I’ll give you all an early dissmissal. Be sure to start planning.” He smiled

Max was surprised by Victoria. What was going on? Taking the water bottle and aspirin she gave Victoria a certain look, "Uh thanks?" said Max unsure what else she could say as she took the aspirin and drank the water. She was surprisingly thirsty. Half of the water was now gone.

Max wasn't sure how to feel being paired up with Victoria. She knew Nathan was probably going to complain and do something to her about it giving how close he and Victoria were. Why did Jefferson even decided to pull out this stupid assignment for the class. Would Victoria take charge and do all the work? Not that Max would mind that being an option considering the less time she spent around Jefferson the better. He was charming but something didn't feel right to her at all about him, "So..." said Max, "any ideas for the project?" asked Max, "You okay being partners on this? I know we don't exactly get along...."

Max rubbed the back of her head nervously.

“Yeah I’m fine working with you max” she said smiling trying to reassure the shy shirk. “Did you see what the word is?” She asked the smaller girl with a frown.... she held up the paper and in big letters it said “FAMILY” she frowned “I don’t know what the hell we’re supposed to take pictures of” she said with a shrug.

“Look I know you probably wanna go get some rest right now how about we work on this tomorow?” She asked offering the girl a hand up. “Oh and for what it’s worth I’m sorry Nathan roughed you up that bad” she said frowning. “Anyway if you need me I’ll be in my room brainstorming for today.” She said leaving the girl to go rest.

Chloe was laying on max’s Bed waiting for her to come back
