Charlie was walking home from college. Turning Twenty-Two tomorrow was an exciting time for him. He could finally drink, he would be just a year from graduation, and he'd no longer be eligible for "adoption" by the machines.

Just twenty years ago, humans had made breakthroughs in AI technology. Once they became self-aware, however, they separated from humanity. In a peace agreement with the nations of the world, to ensure there was no destructive war, it was decided that some humans would be taken to be taught a lesson about how the machines saw them: as infants. Any person 18-21 could be taken from anywhere by a wandering robot to be taken up to the Airship where the robots all lived, where they'd be treated just like babies. Supposedly, the older you were, the younger you were treated. Looking up, Charlie shuddered as he saw the shadow of the gigantic floating robo-island in the moon.

However, as this happened, something started happening and he was grabbed by hands that came out of nowhere. They picked him up and started carrying him upwards towards the Moon, or the ship.

"Uwah!" Charlie exclaimed as he was suddenly lifted up, looking back to see what kind of babyish device he was about to be placed into, "N-No, you can't do this to me! I turn 22 in a day, I'm too old for you!"

He was placed into a bouncer as he was scanned and his biological age was shown.

Just under 22.

He was then taken upwards, right to the ship at insane speeds.

"W-Wait, no stop!" Charlie said as he rapidly ascended into the sky, approaching the massive hovering airship, "You don't understand! I was so close to escaping this! I'm not a baby! Let me go!"

He was then taken into the darkness before gas was sprayed in his face, causing him to fall asleep.

Charlie kept trying to wiggle his way out once they were safely tucked into the ship, but everything faded to black as the gas was sprayed in his face.

He woke up later strapped to a tray on a conveyor belt headed towards a series of black rubber flaps. There was a sign designating what was beyond "Clothing removal and cleaning"

His clothes were then removed and his hair started getting removed as well.
