Also I feel that to see the story the way I see it you need to step back and think about it. In general I think that a great work of fiction should feel great even when you think about it a lot after.

Tails back in diapers is a Sonic the Hedgehog story staring Tails that I found on deviantart. I later found that its also posted on furaffinity.
First off let me note that this is an AU version of the Sonic universe given that Tails has parents who take care of him (In most canonical continuities he's an orphan). I don't feel that the setting being this AU is inherently wrong.
Before I go over plot. Another thing that the author does better then some people is imagery. Reasonable imagery is essential for a diaper story.
Our story starts with Tails being left with a babysitter named Ebony. His parents tell the babysitter that he wets the bed. Some people may find this opening cliche but I'm more one to judge based on execution.
It turns out that the babysitter has diapers with her, both in her size as it turns out she wears them, and in his size. The author avoided one of my personal diaper story pet peeves of ignoring the fact that different size people need different size diapers. Also explaining why the correct size is around is another important detail for me in general. Technically Sonic characters are stronger the humans so alternatively Ebony being the same size as Tails but still being able carry him like she does in later chapters is plausible since we never get a height comparison for them.
We quickly learn that Tails wets the bed only to stay in diapers but his parents insist on pull ups. Later in the story we learn that he want to hang onto his early childhood and that's the reason why.
In chapter 2 Tails starts bed wetting uncontrollably and later has 2 daytime accidents. Plot Conveniently he kept his diaper on that morning because his parents were sleeping in but Sonic notices. Eventually Sonic suggests that something triggered the accidents.
Once you get to chapter 5 Ebony comes to babysit again and some of the pieces start falling into place. This is the chapter that condemns the story. Here is an excerpt so that my complaint against this part makes more sense:

Once the food was finished, Ebony quickly looked around to make sure Tails wasn’t paying attention and took out a small white bottle from her pocket. She took the lid off and started sprinkling a little bit of the powder on Tails’s food when all of a sudden she heard Tails from the other room.
“Is the food done yet? Cause it sure smells like it.” Tails said getting up from the couch.
Ebony was a little on edge and the unexpected remark from Tails made her jump a bit and spill a fair bit of the powder onto his food. Without thinking she quickly mixed the powder into the food and shoved the bottle into her pocket just as Tails came up behind her.
“Hey you are done, thanks!” Tails said grabbing the plate before Ebony could say anything.
Oh man, this could turn out badly. Really REALLY badly! Ebony thought to herself.
“Wow, this is really good!” Tails said after a few bites. “What did you put in it?”
“Oh uh, just some uh, spices I found in the cabinet.” Ebony said nervously.
Tails shrugged and kept eating while Ebony stood there biting her lip.
“Aren’t you gonna eat some?” Tails asked as Ebony just watched him.
“Uh, no that’s fine, I’m not really hungry anyways.”
“Suit yourself.”

Tails has another accident after he eats, Ebony changes him, and then we get this excerpt:

“I think I’ll just stick with the diaper for now.” Tails said giving himself a few pats on the butt. “By the way, I’ve been meaning to ask you about something.”
“What is it?” Ebony asked as Tails sat on the couch.
“It’s just, I’ve been having a lot of accidents over the last 2 weeks. If it was just the occasional nighttime wetting then I wouldn’t be worried, but I haven’t woken up dry even once! Plus, I’ve only been able to actually make it to the toilet twice during the daytime. This didn’t start until you babysat me 2 weeks ago.”
“Are you saying that I’m the reason?” Ebony said getting a little nervous.
“Not necessarily, but I don’t suppose you would know what’s wrong with me?”
Ebony couldn’t find the words to say and shifted her weight nervously. She didn’t want to lie to Tails, but she was worried that he would hate her if she did tell him the truth. She sighed deeply and decided to tell him.
“Actually, there’s something I should tell you.” Ebony said reaching into her pocket. “It’s no coincidence that you’ve been having all of these accidents.”
“What do you mean by that? There’s no way you could have caused it, right?” Tails said trying to laugh off the idea.
“Well, not without this.” Ebony said tossing a bottle to him.
Tails caught the bottle and read the label. “Incontinence Powder? What the hell is this!?”
Ebony winced as Tails yelled at her. “It’s something I slipped into your food 2 weeks ago, which would explain all of your accidents.”
Tails just looked at her with a bemused look. “Why?”
“Well, I know how much you liked being in diapers again, so I just thought that maybe you wouldn’t mind.”
Tails was still fuming but tried to calm himself down. “Well you could have told me at least. But I’m guessing you put some more in my food tonight too.”
“Yeah, about that.”
“What?” Tails asked worriedly.
“You see, one teaspoon of this stuff causes full incontinence for 2 weeks. Every extra teaspoon after doubles the effect time.”
“And how much did you use this time?”
“That’s the problem, you kind of startled me when I was putting it onto your food. Judging by the size of the pile I’d say no more than 5 teaspoons.”
“5!? Let’s see, 2 weeks doubled five times-that’s almost 8 months! I can’t be pissing and crapping my pants for 8 months!” Tails exclaimed grabbing Ebony’s arms.
“I know I know! I’m sorry, I really am! If only I had been more careful!” Ebony said burying her face in her hands.
Tails sighed and put his hand on Ebony’s shoulder. “Well, there’s no way around it now. At least it makes using my diapers that much easier.” Tails said trying to sound optimistic.
“I guess you’re right, no turning back now.”
“I have a couple more questions though. Firstly, will I go completely incontinent from being on this stuff for this long?”
“Hmm, I’m not sure. I’ve never used the stuff myself to be honest, let’s just hope that it won’t cause any damage down there.” Ebony said putting the bottle in the nearest bag.
“With 8 months of no control, I seriously doubt that...

First off, Ebony giving tails a drug to make him incontinent without telling him or something could easily have resulted in many embarrassing moments and a lot of trouble for him. Yet she casually did it "off screen" after only just meeting him. She also states that she doesn't use Incontinence powder. Which makes the reader wonder why she's carrying it to begin with. This provokes a lot of uneasy questions about Ebony such as wondering if the other child she babysat really had a bladder defect or just got the same drug.
To the reader, there are too many questions and at this point Ebony seems questionable at best and sadistic at worst. None of the characters pick up on this. Granted, Tails is the only one who knew that she did it, but you'd think he'd be less trusting of her after at the very least. However he's totally forgiving and trusting in ways that most people wouldn't be even with friends who never did anything negative to them.
However all that is nothing compared to wrecking Tails's body permanently!
Regardless of the reasons behind it, that's enough of an act of child abuse to condemn the entire story.
I don't buy the author's pitch that overdosing him was accidental. Ebony could have dropped the plate and claimed that her hand slipped. Or make some excuse like saying that the food wasn't cooked enough and threw it out. She could have said that the powder was mold or something. All she did was mix the powder in so Tails wouldn't notice until it was too late. which shows that she supports permanently harming someone.
Feel free to stop reading this review now if you agree that this act of abuse is unforgivable, but I will review the rest of the story in brief.
Ebony does some baby role play with Tails. (Assuming your even still reading at this point) Of course, why he's still so forgiving and trusting around her is never explained. Especially when you consider that its revealed later that Tails was bullied in daycare and has fought Eggman in the past, so he certainly knows how bad people can be and has probably been tricked before. He even fights Eggman later in the story too to rescue Ebony, and not at all for the "no on deserves that" mentality.
Eventually the rest of the cast finds out about Tails wanting to be a baby and they are fully on board with it. Tails tells his parents that something kinda happened and he became incontinent for a while.
I don't blame the author for having the rest of the cast be accepting during the final few chapters. Just like one doesn't watch James bond for realistic physics and gun fights where even main characters can die without a big buildup, one doesn't read diaper stories to see the protagonist be shunned or forced to stop wearing diapers.
There are some minor nuances where I feel the author put too much of them self into Tails. EG him owning and playing Assassins Creed when he's not even 13 yet. However its nothing next to my big complaint above.
