“Will you just drop it already?!” The haughtiness of Inuyasha’s voice rang clearly from the clearing “I still won didn’t I? So what if the big lug got a few hits in, it ain’t like it’s a big deal! Besides!” The sheathe of Tetsusaiga lunged out accusingly at Kagome “What about you, Huh? How many shots went over it’s big fat head before you finally got one in?”

Pulling his sword back to sheathe, Inuyasha paced impatiently about the bloated form of the demon they’d just slain. An ugly looking thing, but nothing out of the ordinary, certainly nothing compared to the likes of Naraku. Yet, judging by the dark bags under Inuyasha’s eyes and the scratches and bruises all over his arms, one might be forgiven for thinking that they’d been battling for hours!

"You've been getting real sloppy, Inuyasha," Kagome said. "You really are just making too many positioning errors!" She put her hands on her hips to really symbolize her anger.

Granted, Kagome looked similarly frazzled and weathered, but that was certainly a show of how long this journey had lasted. Indeed, she wasn't doing that well either, but she wanted to appear strong as always. She sighed as she put her bow away to prepare for jumping back through the Well.

“Positioning errors??” Inuyasha outright balked at such high and mighty talk “Excuse me?? What do you know about wielding a sword, Huh? Besides, you’re one to talk! Last I saw your bow was flailing all over the place!”

The sleeves of his fire-rat robes flapped wildly out into the air as the half demon made s rather poor show of mimicking Kagome.

“‘Positioning errors’…” He snorted sharply, before turning fully to face her “Hey! Where’re you going!”

He sounded a little shorter with her than usual, but didn’t let the wince show on his face. Oh, they’d bickered before, all the time really…but tonight…Damnit, tonight he was just so damn frazzled!

Right now, waiting for Inuyasha, was someone quite receptive, hopefully. Thanks to the power of the Jewel, Izayoi and Touga had been revived. Right now, they were living together in Inuyasha's rightful birthright, in the castle, which had been fixed up. Izayoi was all smiles. "Are you all right, Inuyasha?"

Kagome sighed as she returned back to her time and saw her loving mother, Sayuri, waiting for her.

“Kagome?” Sayuri’s voice trilled out from their home’s front doorway, “Sweetheart, is that you?”

Footfalls pattered anxiously ahead of the rather worried looking woman who soon came into view. Her chest heaved heavily out at the sight of her daughter. “Oh, Kagome…” she sighed out in no small amount of relief “You’ve been gone all day…I was so worried about you.”


But unlike Izayoi, who seemed to be an ever flowing well of patience, Inuyasha’s face still wore the stubborn scowl that he’d trounced on in with.

“M’fine…” The half-demon huffed, though not nearly as sharply as he would with Kagome. “Just…Kagome’s being stupid, trying to tell me how to use my own damn sword…”

He scuffed his bare foot sharply against the polished floors that he still glared at.

Kagome sighed as well. "I know, Mama, I know. I thought that after Naraku was gone, I wouldn't have to be away as long anymore. But this battle was surprisingly hard. Especially surprisingly hard, since this demon was far weaker than Naraku. I don't know what's wrong with me, but I feel so...out of step."

Izayoi just went over and hugged her son. Naturally, since they'd been reunited, she was being exceptionally loving, attentive, even a little smothering. After all, now they could live like nobility at last, and in comfort and warmth. "Won't you come and join me in the main bedchamber for a bit? I think we could have a little talk."

“I’m not surprised…” Sayuri murmured gently as she came to wrap a loving pair of arms around her daughter “With how late you stay out and how many cuts and bruises I see you sporting lately…”

She felt herself bristle with no small amount of fear at the thought of what kind of…of creatures Kagome must be facing every day, but shook her head quickly to clear it.

“Darling…” Sayuri murmured gently again as she began to guide Kagome back through the house “Don’t you think it’s time for a little break from all this demon slaying…?”


“Moo-oom…” Inuyasha groaned out softly, but he’d not once ever tried to fight off Izayoi’s affections. If anything, the rough and tough half demon may have a hard time fighting off accusations of being a secret ‘mama’s boy’ if anyone where to see how easily he let himself be eased into her waiting embrace.

Yet still, Inuyasha felt his ears stiffen a moment at his mother’s suggestion.

“Talk?” He felt his voice nearly hitch slightly. She couldn’t have found out, could she? He’d been so careful to bury the evidence…! “Wh-why? What about..?”

Kagome sighed and hugged her mother. She felt quite assured, knowing that she'd always have her mother to rely on. "I probably should take a break," Kagome said. "After all, I've got high school to deal with soon." It had been a real fight for her to struggle with the entrance exams, but she'd passed. "Can you please excuse me, Mama? I think I'm going to bed."

Izayoi just took Inuyasha's hand and led him to the main bedchamber, where she and Touga would sleep, down the hall from Inuyasha's own room. They sat together on the bed. "Inuyasha, there are a couple of things I want to address. First...have you ever thought about taking some time off from fighting? After all, you finished off the main threat, so why don't you just enjoy life for once?

“Mhm, that’s right…gosh that’s come around so quick…” Sayuri murmured again, this time more absently and to herself than Kagome outright. A sharp pang thumped against the inside of her chest. It was only when she finally felt her daughter beginning to pull away that she was able to blink back out of such idle reverie.

“Ah…wait. Kagome?” Sayuri reached out again, but didn’t try to snatch her daughter back. Oh…was she being over dramatic? “Sweetheart…can we talk for a moment?”


“Huh? Time off?” Inuyasha’s semi-flattened ears pricked back up, but cautiously so. “What dya mean, Mom? Why…why would I wanna do that?”

Squinting, the half-demon only regarded his mother with something of a puzzled squint. Did she know about his…well…he shook his head sharply to clear the thought.

“I mean, what’s that even mean, anyway? Just laze around all day and do nothing?” He snorted slightly at the thought.

Kagome did stop when she heard her mother call for her. She turned around. She gulped a little, wondering if her mother was starting to catch onto her big secret at the moment. But then again, this was something she might want to talk about. At the very least, she thought she should hear Sayuri out. "Sure, Mama. What is it?"

"Well, that's one way to look at it," Izayoi said. "But you can do lots of other things in the meantime. Like, start to really get yourself in a good place, get healthy. Like, you could spend more time with Kagome in her time. Maybe you could bring us with you at some point." She hoped that would make Inuyasha relax a little, before she moved in for the big element. "And the other thing we need to talk about is...the laundry."
