Buuuut, it also gives the possibility for more money for the developer... granted it IS EA, and they have actually banned you from your game accounts for stuff on the forums, even on single player. Which is actually against their own Terms of Service.

Ya, I can see it not going well, especially since it is EA. But I will wait to see. They release some really fantastic games, so I hope they don't go overboard with it.

True. They do own Maxis or something or help publish them, so there are the Sim and Civ games. I dislike what they've done to Bioware however. I remember when I used to like Bioware because of Neverwinter Nights 2. And now... after playing Mass Effect 2... I don't particularly like the direction EA is taking, they have way too much influence over their developers for my comfort, especially with the Prothean DLC bungle. That... and the fact that there are a lot of recent games that have decided to link your graphical quality to your resolution, like Mass Effect 2 as well as Deus Ex Human Revolution (however Square Enix is a cool publisher and Deus Ex is fun).

Well, beyond that, there are some other interesting things. What do you think about this whole Free to play model in gaming? Crytek has said they are looking to go free to play in a few years. Many people think free to play is one of the largest reasons games have declined in quality.

It's bad. Because it will result in massive lack of profits for companies. Sure many MMORPGs impliment the purchase of items, but that can only get so far. I mean TERA Online went Free to Play from a subscription model because it failed to try and emulate World of Warcraft. And I play World of Warcraft. I like the buy to play model for The Secret World and Guild Wars 2 (I have Guild Wars 2 but holy shit the download. DX) because it's sustainable, as Guild Wars 2 has shown with like a minor cosmetic shop.

I actually like TERA Online, though im glad it went free to play. XD
I don't feel free to play is necessary bad for the market, but I do think companies are crazy for thinking it will continue to work in every situation. I think free to play should only be used for MMOs that are made for that model (Nexon games as an example), or for MMO's that failed to pull in enough subs (Like you pointed out, Tera, as an example).
I do feel like though is causing companies to make games with less quality just to get a quick cash grab.
You know in all honesty, these past years the game industry has been a really big disappointment for me. I can't say I have seen anything all that exciting. I think the only company I can say that still excites me is Valve.

And even Valve can't count to three despite all the want for Episode 3.
I like TERA as well. xD I occassionally play it. FOUNDER STATUS BIATCH!
I honestly hope the action style of MMOs continues because spamming hotkeys and click targetting enemies get boring. Feeling the force behind your clicks is where you are at.

Yeah, I'm just gonna go ahead and close this thread, before this starts gettin' worse. The constant bickering is un-necessary.
Enemies, friends, enemies, oi.
