Two Roomies and a Trinket (Private with Vyx)

21 year old Daniel hustled home as he checked the time on his phone. He still had 45 minutes to go before his roommate got home, but he didn't want her to see what he'd bought her for her birthday, both because it would spoil the surprise and because he bought it last minute.

With a small huff and wheeze, Daniel hurried down the sidewalk, going down a set of blocks and alleys, until he finally got to his apartment.

"Good," he said t himself while checking the parking lot, "she's not here yet."

He took a deep breath and made his way inside, looking all around to make sure he wouldn't be seen with the gift, just in case.

Vyxen, aged 20, walked at a brisk pace towards her apartment, giddy for whatever her roomate had planned for her. "I bet he got a puppy~ Or even a kitty!~" She thought, countless scenarios and possible gifts swirling about her head. As she arrived at the apartment, number 406, she knocked on the door. "Daniel~ Is it okay for me to come in?" She said with glee. "Sorry I'm a bit early, I just couldn't wait~."

Daniel panicked when he heard Vyxen pop in, and held the door closed when she knocked. "U-um, sure, Vyxen! And Happy Birthdayyyyyyy!" he screamed from the other side of the door. "Just make yourself comfortable, okay? I'm almost done with some preparations!" he called as he stuffed her gift into a box, then wrapped it quickly.

I hope she likes this! he thought to himself.

Vyxen ran into the home, standing a few inches away from Daniel. "Well, what did you get me?~ Is it a cat? It's a cat isn't it?!" She almost screamed, clearly exited for whatever he had brought her. "Oooh! What's in the box Daniel? Did you get a me a ring? Let me see, let me see~" She proclaimed, trying to grab the box from Daniel's hands.

"Wha? A cat? N-no, Vyxen, it's not a cat! How could a cat fit in a box like this?!" he chuckled, doing his best to keep the gift away from her. "N-now hang on a sec! We need to sing you Happy Birthday and get you some cake!"

He had everything else ready for his roommate, with the exception of the gift itself. Still, he held onto the box tightly, sticking it into his front right pocket in hopes that Vyxen would leave it alone. "Alright, now you sit down at the table in the kitchen, and I'll get your cake ready."

Vyxen watched as he puts the box away in his pocket. "Aww, alright...." She said in a slightly dejected tone, moving to the kitchen table and having a seat. "It's vanilla cake, right? You know I love vanilla" She told her roommate, eagerly awaiting for him at the table. She sat up straight, almost as if hunting prey.

"Vanilla? I thought you wanted chocolate?" Daniel said in what sounded like a serious tone, but quickly winked at Vyxen to let her know he was kidding. "Of course it's vanilla...with vanilla frosting!" he giggled as he took the cake out of the fridge and quickly set it on the counter, placing candles in it and lighting it up quickly.

Daniel then carefully brought the cake over to the table, beginning to sing the well-known Happy Birthday song. What he failed to tell Vyxen, however, was that the only candles he could find were some old ones they'd used before...including a "2" candle from his nephew's 2nd birthday party. He ignored this problem, however, and hoped Vyxen wouldn't mind either.

Upon finishing the song, Vyxen smiled at Daniel. "Thanks for all of this, Daniel~" She said, blushing slightly. "This must have been a lot of work, and you did a great job!~." She then stared back at the cake, grinning almost evilly. "You know, that candle looks a bit odd... Oh well! Cake time!" She exclaimed, producing 2 party hats from her bag, handing one to her roommate.

Daniel blushed back with a small smile. "H-hey, no problem. I know it's been crazy these past few months, what with working two jobs and all. This should be a good way for you to relax."

He gladly accepted the party hat, securing it on his head before looking over at Vyxen and checking her own to make sure it was on right. "There we go...now, ready for some cake? I told the lady at the bakery how much you love vanilla...hopefully she didn't go too crazy with ti!"

Daniel then grabbed two plates from the cupboard, setting them down on the table, then grabbed a knife. "Would you like to do the honors?" he asked, pointing the handle of the knife towards his roommate.

"Of course~." Vyxen replied, taking the knife from her roommate. She shivered in delight as the knife easily slipped through the cake. "It looks so good...." She thought as she took out the piece she cut very carefully, setting it on one of the plates. She quickly did the same with another slice for herself. "Let's see how it is~." She said to Daniel, taking a small bite from her own slice.
