Daring Do and the Quest for the Responsible Rainbow (Private)

Rainbow Dash blinked for a few seconds at her rescue before coming to her senses and spreading her wings, planning on soaring alongside Daring Do and trying to ignore the damp fur on her hind legs.

Her right wing didn't listen, though, instead painfully refusing to properly extend. She hadn't felt it at the time, but her wing had taken the brunt of the impact when she crashed.

"That. Was. Amazing!" She told Daring, as they sped back towards the cabin. "I thought I was gonna die, but you saved me! You're incredible!" She said, clinging to Daring as she dodged through trees at a slightly less breakneck pace than Rainbow had.

"I couldn't let my fan become a new cat toy, now could I?" She couldn't help but smirk back at Rainbow Dash before turning back to watch where she was flying. Daring continued slaloming through the trees until she felt they were far enough away to slow down. Hopefully they'd at least be more interested in the new toy they'd have when the rope inevitably broke... so far none of them left the deeper jungle to bother the house she had out there.

"What were you doing out there by yourself?" She had since slowed down enough that they could talk more freely. "You should know how dangerous it is out there, or did you not pay attention to those parts?" She landed softly at her door and took Rainbow back inside. She sighed before locking the door and setting the pony down on the floor so she could stand. "Are you alright? Aside from the uhh... accident?" Daring glanced down at the mare's hindquarters before looking Rainbow Dash in the eye.

Rainbow Dash blushed, looking down at her hooves to avoid meeting Daring Do's gaze. "I, uh..." She said, deciding to answer the second question first. "I'm fine, mostly. I think my wing is hurt, but I've been hurt a bunch, that's nothing new." She didn't even bring up the accident, too embarrassed to talk about it in front of one of her idols.

Still, when Daring didn't just move on, Rainbow knew she was going to have to explain herself. "I was, well... You see... I thought your book needed more cool actiony stuff, like you have in all your others! So I was gonna find something we could fight together so you could write about it, and it kind of got out of hand really fast. I'm sorry!" She added the apology quickly, hoping it would mitigate any negative consequences of her actions.

"Well, the wing we can bandage up..." She gruffed. There were still plenty of wrappings from when her own wing was damaged, and since they were around the same size it shouldn't be a problem. Everything else...

"You can't do that, Rainbow Dash!" Daring Do stomped a hoof onto the floor, "If I need inspiration for more of those, I can go out on my own to try exploring and maybe something finds me out there. I don't actively go looking for dangerous animals!" She sighed, rubbing her forehead with her hoof again. She was starting to get a bit of a headache. 'You need to learn...' she thought to herself, no way she'd be able to save Rainbow all the time.

"And we can't forget about the accident you had, should I get you something to contain those too?" She thought out loud as the gears began to turn in her head. Something that'd get Rainbow to understand the seriousness of the problem, and she did have an accident after all...

"I'm sorry," Rainbow Dash mumbled, when Daring Do started to go off on her. Then, again, "I'm sorry!" after Daring said she didn't go out looking for fights with dangerous animals. She was beginning to realize how stupid her plan had been, but it didn't look like an apology was going to cut it. Worse, Rainbow probably couldn't *leave* safely either, since without being able to fly and without being able to navigate the woods accurately, she would likely just end up pissing off more monsters.

Then, Daring Do brought up the accident, and Rainbow Dash turned as red as a stripe in her mane. "Th-that was an accident!" She said, defensively, before realizing how stupid that sounded. "I mean, I didn't know- Uh, well, I mean that it wasn't on purpose..." These were getting progressively worse, so she decided just to shut up. "But I swear it won't happen again, honest! It was only because I was so scared, but since I learned my lesson I won't be wandering into the woods again so everything is okay!" She didn't like admitting to being scared, but being honest was the best and least humiliating way to explain away the accident that she could think of.

"Sorry's not gonna cut it, Rainbow Dash. You're not a foal, and you can't make stupid mistakes like that ever!" She paced the room a bit before trying to calm down some. Yelling at the mare wouldn't fix much, and she felt out of place to be giving a lecture on danger to her... but then again, Daring Do had more experience than Rainbow Dash did and wasn't as headstrong right out of the gate...

"That doesn't help, Rainbow..." She sighed, digging through her bag to get Rainbow bandaged up. It took a bit more willpower than she'd imagined to refrain from teasing her about only foals having accidents. "If you have another one, I'm going to have to either have you leave or we'll have to find something else so you're not making a mess everywhere." She gave Rainbow a sympathetic look, "But I won't just let you stand around like that... I'll get your wing fixed up, then I can help set you up to clean up. Alright?" She began rolling the tape around Rainbow's body to secure the wing properly.

Rainbow was glad that Daring didn't push things too far with the accidents, but at the same time she felt a little defensive at the lecture. "You're right!" She snapped, after a second. "I'm not a foal, and I don't need you to tell me what I should and shouldn't do!" Jerking away before Daring could start wrapping her wing, (Since it would be a bit awkward to be in an argument with somepony while they're actively giving you medical attention,) she turned to face Daring Do eye to eye.

"I am glad you saved me," she said, her expression somewhere between a glare and an uncomfortable grimace of discomfort. "But I'm a grown mare. I can take care of myself, I can bandage my own wing, and I can deal with it when I, uh, have an accident." That last one sounded a little silly, but she was on a roll. "I don't need you around to baby me, I was just trying to help."

"Wooaah there!" Daring Do gasped, dropping the bandages onto the floor. What a rude comeback, but... deep breaths. "When you're dealing with life and death stuff like that, you accept advice from the expert. Anything otherwise its just foalish to try and hide from the fact you don't know everything." She didn't back down at all, all Rainbow's outburst did was enforce the feeling that she could use a little rehabilitation.

"And accepting help does not make you a foal either, but if you're going to be that way then you can dress yourself." Daring Do gestured to the roll of bandages before heading back to her chair to write some more. "You can wash up in the room down the hall, or go outside and do it. Now please, I need some quiet to write."

Rainbow rolled her eyes, walking over to the tape and picking it up with her mouth, reaching over to wrap her wing up. It was difficult to do it at that awkward of an angle, and Rainbow was no doctor, but she managed to get her wing vaguely bandaged up in a way that would keep it from getting hurt more, probably. Maybe.

She wanted to be mad at Daring Do some more, but it didn't really seem fair to her. She had just saved Rainbows life, after all. So, instead of arguing, she just grumbled her way to the bathroom, cleaning up her hindquarters with a washcloth.

A few minutes later, she was done, and looking to find Daring Do again. "So..." She said, waiting for the author to stop typing for a moment so Rainbow could get in a word. "Can I, uh, crash on your couch? Please?"

Daring wasn't in much of a mood to write, so she kept a subtle eye on how Rainbow was doing just so the mare wouldn't hurt herself even more. Daring had heard stories about Rainbow Dash's speed with flying, and Daring Do did't wan't to be known as somepony who let it spoil over a petty disagreement the two were having at the moment. Once Rainbow was in the bathroom, Daring took the time to wrap up for the night so she'd get a small bite to eat before bed.

"Yeah, that's fine. It's getting late, and you shouldn't be out there when you can't fly." She rubbed her forehead again before sliding her chair out to head to her room, and to pass by the kitchen. "I'll grab you a blanket and a spare pillow. Did you want an apple or something before bed?" She paused in the doorway, turning back to look at Rainbow.
