Dick and Bruce (Private: Slight and Diaperbuttwannabe)

The boy's love of syrup was to be expected; he was a little boy, after all! Bruce couldn't help but smile a little, lifting the paper up to read it once more as the boy scoffed his waffles... well-- okay, maybe scoffing them was a bad word, but he wasn't cutting and chewing them like the duke of margarine either.
"My word," Alfred replied as the boy spoke with his mouth open. "T-Thank you, master Dick. But I assure you, perhaps..."
Bruce waved his hand briefly, employing his napkin in his left hand before reaching across the table to wipe Dick's chin. Maybe that would give him a gentle hint? Even if it didn't, for now Bruce didn't seem to mind. "Hmm. Well-- I thought we could do a little clothes shopping today?" he began. "You'll be starting school again.... and I thought a new set of clothes would help start things out on the right foot," he eased, putting the napkin down. Somehow he'd put his paper down and simply watched the boy eating-- as though he were tending a little one in a high chair.

Dick blushed, and wiped his chin blushing. He took the hint, making sure his mouth was completely empty before speaking. "That is fine, Mr. Wayne, thank you." He was trying his best to be polite, but in his defence, he is a six-year old.

He smiled at Dick and let him finish up his Waffles. "Please-- call me Bruce. You don't have to be so formal... I want..." he paused and trailed off. How would he find the right moment to say that he wanted things to feel like a family-- that he wanted Wayne Manor to be like a home rather than a hotel....
Waiting for Dick to finish his waffles, he allowed Alfred to take care of the dishes-- that's what a Butler was for! "Well... Once we finish up with the clothes shopping, I thought we might stop by the zoo if that sounds fun," he coaxed, shuffling from the kitchen and toward the entry to the massive garage. He had... an extensive collection of cars, after all.

"Um, Ok," He said finishing the waffles. "Um, Bruce." He soon got up, not used to having Alfred wash dishes. He then followed him to the garage, not sure what to expect.

Bruce fished out the keys to his favourite roadster and spun them briefly around his index finger. "Hmm... Someday, when you're older," he began, walking down the isles of parked cars; "You'll get to drive on of these," he chuckled. Thinking better, he grimaced and reiterated: "...but not until you're older." Much older! He unlocked the car and tugged open Dick's door. The car was, of course, a two-seater. It wasn't the safest car for a little kid-- but with the modifications he'd made to it, it wasn't likely it would be getting destroyed with he and Dick inside any time soon. "Buckle up," he hummed, half tempted to reach over the boy once he was in the car and do it himself. Fortunately for Dicky he did not. It didn't take him long to cross the other side of the car and hop in. Firing up the ignition, he backed out of the garage and began the trek down the long, winding driveway. "How much schooling have you completed, Dick?" he asked along the drive.

Dick blushed, but nodded climbing in, buckling himself in the car. He then leaned back on the seat, finding it very nice. "Um, I'm not sure. We didn't really use grades in the circus, not much time. Mostly practice, though my mom helped me when she could."

"Hmm," Bruce replied, sliding into the flow of traffic as they wound closer to Gotham City. "Well... I should find some kind of a compass test to give you. Your grade school teachers will want to know what level you're at..." He didn't want to hold the boy back if he needed to advance-- and he didn't want to push him too hard if he wasn't yet ready to advance either! He was six-- it was such an odd age for boys. Some had been held back and were only just starting kindergarten... others were already in first grade!
A few minutes later, he parked his car in a parking ramp. They'd have quite a bit of walking to do-- or maybe they'd just hail a cab or two. Price was no object for Bruce. "Shall we then?" said Bruce with an encouraging smile. Sliding out of the car, he opened the door for Dick and began wandering down the parking ramp stairwell and out to the bustling streets. First stop? A clothing store!
The store itself was pretty up-scale. Bruce didn't do any shopping that wasn't up-scale, really. He'd just gotten used to it. "Hello," he greeted the clerks-- who knew him well.
"Ah! Mister Wayne! How good of you to pay us a visit! And who is this?" the gentleman clerk inquired, looking over little Dicky.
"Ah... This is Dick Grayson. He's going to be staying with me from now on... so we're here to find some new clothes for the occasion," he replied. Nudging Dick forward a little, he murmured quietly to him as though prompting a shy toddler. "Why don't you tell him what your favourite colours are?"

Dick blushed bright red, seeing the man look at him. He whimpered and said quietly, "Green, orange, and black."

Bruce couldn't help but make an eccentric note to re-decorate the kid's room with shades of green and orange-- maybe a hint of black, but not too much! Really! He'd done it up in pastel and bright blues. Rubbing the back of his head, he repressed a smirk.
"We have splendid things in all of those colours!" The clerk coaxed as another practically mobbed Dick to take his measurements. His arms, his legs, his instep his waist-- everything was measured--because Bruce never bought clothes that weren't custom tailored! That would have been tacky. Oh, to be filthy rich. It was such a different life style.
It didn't take the clerk long to return with dress shorts, dress slacks, sweaters, and dress blouses. Bruce was, at present tugging down a very uncharacteristic pair of shortalls. The kid needed nice clothes-- but he needed some clothes he could get dirty too! "Why don't you pick something out?" asked Bruce. "Or more than one thing."

To say Dick was overwhelmed, would be to put it likely. He wasn't used to being shoved, and tugged and having weird ruler tape put around him. It was just a little to much. He relished when he was freed, tugging the pile of clothes in his arms, pushing them in the shopping cart, hidding behind Bruce. When he was asked to pick something out for himself, he blushed, and said, "No need, you've already done so much already for me."
