They went to the home of the village elder and sat as tea was boiled. "Quite the times we live in." The elder said as he stoked the flames. "War has always been apart of our nation's history, bit never to this extent. Before, a big war would kick off. Everyone riles up to pledge their honor and feilty. Whatever happens happened, and for better, or for worse, we move on." He brings their tea to them. "The wars of today are different. They last longer, are more gruesome, and can bring dark omens to anything now. This village is no exception. Once a sprawling commercial district, but the wars between all of the lords have made the value of this location not worth traveling to when there are faster ways to meet your enemies. Not to mention, while our blacksmith will make katanas and armor, we do not craft cannons, cannon balls, or use mainland pyro. To make it simple our village is of no use to the lords' war efforts. Therefore it is of no use at all."

"I... see." The Shrine Maiden nodded. It wasn't out of the norm - many villages were now abandoned like dust in the wind after chaos broke out across the country. She now pieced together the parts of the puzzle of those outside, their cries after being rejected service as they are probably one of the only wanderers to pass by the village. "Why are some of them still here, then?" Kiyomi asked, trying to appear respectful "I'd assume that most people would've moved away by now".

"To pack up and wonder is no easy task. Many set up shop here because they had no where else to go. Some have families here they must care for." The village elder stated. "You must understand child. For many, this was the better option. Domiyos and Samurai raid lands and homes just to spite another. The common man killed, the common woman, left with nothing, and the children stripped from their families and taken to only the gods know where. If not the wars, then there's food shortages and illness. Young children struggling to keep themselves alive. Having go grow up too soon, and take responsibility for their family. Yes, these times are difficult for many. This town may be fairing better than some others because it is not burned to the ground."

She has thought about that, of course, but still. The Shrine Maiden had saw the eyes of those who had so eagerly tried to get her attention for a sliver of hope, and stared into the pitiful souls that now resided here. "It makes no difference, does it not?" Kiyomi began, clearing her throat. "What more can the people do here? They've more or less already lost their lives. Is there anything that could be done?"

"Just....enjoy your stay in our village. Grant these people purpose." Was all the elder said. Miyako smiled at this and turned to his Maiden Mommy and asked "Can we go out and find more stuff in town!?" He asks excitedly.

“I… see.” Kiyomi curtseyed, before turning to the young boy, his eyes full of wonder. She wondered if he really knew all too much about their words, or understood the full implication, but regardless, she managed a smile. “Of course,” She said, patting his head, before turning towards the Elder “Thank you. Come on, Miyako, let’s see the streets.”
Though, as they began walking away, the shrine maiden couldn’t help but feel a sense of regret. “Grant these people purpose,” that’s what the elder said. All those left here without a purpose… that was no life at all. Yet, what would be the alternative? There is none, not without a miracle of sorts, or the endless strife and war of this land to stop.

"Over here! Let's go to this spot!" Miyako happily pulled the Shrine Maiden along. His childish glee and juvenile wonder pulled them along to every stall and vendor. Playing games, trying out the food, shopping for clothing and talismans. With each stop, Miyako gave these people the happiest of smiles. It was if these people were allowed to live, however briefly. Miyako's innocence gave these people the best night they've had in a long time. No war, no conquest, no strict codes, no vices. Just allowing them to provide the two visitors a good time.

In truth, it was a experience she'd never felt for a very long time since becoming a shrine maiden, bringing Miyako around these stalls and seeing the laughter and joy of everyone just created a feeling inside her heart that she just couldn't explain. Before long, the sun gradually set beyond the horizon - yet, the warm glow of the lanterns said otherwise. The festivities still didn't seem to end yet - Kiyomi just wondered where it would all go.
"Miyako, are you alright there? Anything else you'd want?" She softly asked.

The two got to enjoy a bath house and relax together for the night. Just being there and being able to enjoy themselves allowed everyone to live for the moment. If only for just one night. When dawn broke, It was time to get ready to leave.

In truth, she really wished such festivities could be felt every day. Even in her more secluded life of being a Shrine Maiden, there was always a small seed of doubt within her if it was the path to live her life. They might have enough money for two or three weeks left, but what then? The path ahead was clouded, their future seemingly more bleak. It was all they could do right now to push onwards, Kiyomi thought, packing up her things. The earlier they were out on the road, the less chances of things happening.
