What do you do if you encounter a bully?
So this topic is recently popular around the interwebs and I thought I'd talk about this. Now I am kinda cautious on showing how it feels to be bullied because why not just actually hire teachers who will do there freaking jobs around schools and parents paying more attention to there kids? I think not to mention if you ignore the parasites I mean uh bullies then eventually Karma will bite them in the ass. I know bullying is rough and I understand that cause because I was involved and I was to the point to where I wanna murder the fuckers but I just ignore them and let karma be the ultimate weapon against bullies. Now look at me I got a freaking High School diploma my grades might be poor but I made that up in our local Carrier Center and now I'm off to college. Who thinks people should ignore bullies rather than to show them how it feels to be bullied unless there's a dire need to show it? BTW I kinda found this type of article snooping around Yahoo and wanted to post it on here and see what everyone thought up of the idea of how bullying should be contained ^^'' Sorry if I don't make sense XD
EDIT:
I am wondering do you guys think security cameras should be added to classrooms to control bullying? OPINIONS ONLY THANK YOU....

I usually try to keep away from them and ignore any bad things they say, I am not a violent person but to protect myself or my friends I will get physical if I have to but that is a last resort, I realise there are probably better ways to deal with then but this is how I've always handlers then.
Interesting post by the way ^^

When someone affronts you verbally, and it is highly offensive (they use pejoratives to insult your race, sex, heritage, belief, or orientation), you have a right to inform someone and have it dealt with appropriately. When/if that time comes, you find an administrator, a police officer, or a trusted authority figure and explain clearly, calmly, and fully what happened. You do this without informing the bully, and without resorting to desperate attention seeking, as the point of reporting the incident is to have it be known you are being harassed. Everyone should enjoy the right to being left to their own ways as long as they are not disrupting or bothering anyone else. No one has the right to be unkind to you for absolutely no reason, and even when you give them a reason, they have no right to debase you for it, especially if you've done nothing of the sort.
When someone physically harasses you, then the issue is entirely different. If you fear for your safety, modesty, or pride, you are within the rights of the laws in most states to stand up for yourself and use rational force to dispense your attacker. That said, you should NEVER seek out to harm another person unless that person has set upon you first. Tempting someone into attacking you is not purely their fault, instigation is as felonious as assault, especially in cases where you respond physically, as there are many incidents where someone picks a fight verbally so they can finish it physically.

Well I used to get bullied all the time back in school. Chased after and such. The issue I found was, telling a teacher didn't stop it from happening and only made it worse.
Why? Because the punishments they give don't hurt the bully in anyway. Detention? Please! Like they give a crap. What about suspended? OHHH yaaaa ... did we forget .. they like not going to school ... that is a reward ... not a punishment.
Ok .. so maybe now a teacher knows ... what is that teacher going to do when they are not around? Nothing.
That, right there, is the issue. What needs to be done, is if a student is causing issues .. they need to be moved to another class room. A stricter class. You have to make it a place .. a student wouldn't want to be ... EVER. What does a bully do in a room full of bullies? Hmm makes me wonder.
Then you may ask .. "well what if they still do it even after that?"
Well in sever cases such as that, I honestly think the kid or teen should be locked up for a day. Not anything dangerous mind you.
Now ... of course ... the best way to prevent bullies is to have parents raise their kids properly and really teach them how much trouble it causes.
I think the biggest issue of all is parents allow their kids to get away with way to much. People in this day and age are separated. If it isn't good for them, they tend to not care about the person standing next to them.
THAT is a problem in my eyes. How do you expect bullies to stop, when everyone only cares about themselves? That is currently the way our society works, and it isn't getting any better.
The funny thing is ... I also feel no one takes responsibility for their own actions. So many people do such stupid things, and expect others to clean up for them. Ohh and don't even get me started when you try and confront these people. They act like you are the one in the wrong.
A little bit of advice for people. If someone is in trouble and you want to help them. You don't give them the fish . .you teach them HOW to fish.
Hopefully people get that analogy lol.
We ourselves have to change if we want society as a whole to change. If no one is willing too .. then where do you expect it to start?

After all of the experiences I've ever had, and my own intricate thoughts on the concept, I've come to the simple conclusion that you will never, never, ever be able t stop bullying. But that's not a bad thing.
"Bullying," today, seems to be any time someone says SOMETHING negative to someone else. Immediately it's bullying. That's not really the way the world works, though. Look, you can have two students in, let's say middle school, who're loved by their peers, have amazing grades, do their clubs and go home to a nice house with a nice family and a nice everything. But, if these two students just can't get along, and hate each others guts, people immediately say that one is bullying the other. This is not the case.
When I talk to people in my college's gaming lounge, if I find out they play WoW and then proceed to find out they're Hordies, I'll jokingly say, "Horde scum!" Does this make me a bully?
Now, when it comes to getting physical- at that point you really ought to just knock the kid's lights out, if you're being assaulted. Yes, tell your teachers and whoever, "this kid is doing X Y and Z to me," but don't go crying home after "billy in the lunch room called me gay! BAWWWWW!"
I've gotten rather sick and tired of this.
Beyond that, we have to take into account the idea that, when you're young, and you experiment with who and what you are as a whole, you may very well wind up being confused and hurt other people because of that strange confusing time in your life. But, when you mature, MOST people come to realize that they were being assholes. Locking some kid up for messing with another kid is NOT the way to help someone. Yes, threaten the kid that if he doesn't stop he'll get detention and other things, but no matter what we do we will never stop bullying.
And that's okay.
Bullying teaches many kids how to deal with difficult situations that they'll have to deal with as they get older. It teaches kids how to have thicker skins. It sucks but it's one of those hard truths of life; bullying hurts, but it also helps people grow. If people cannot realize that then perhaps this world will never really move forward.

I don't think I ever heard anything more ignorant in my entire life. Now I have heard everything.
You are the type of person who would allow it to go on for far to long while a child ends up committing suicide due to your ignorance. BRAVO!
I mean ... like ... I can't believe you actually think that. Nor can I actually believe you would say that either.
You are a horrible person. Either that or you have no idea what the hell your talking about. You obviously never had a front row seat to how bad it can be.
It can get so bad, that you wonder why you are so different. It can get so bad .. you wonder why you are alive. It can get so bad that you feel like trash. You feel like everyone needs to die. This is what causes school shootings. This is what causes suicide and hate.
AND YOU SOMEHOW THINK IT'S OK! >.>
Thicker skin my fucking ass! Not everyone is you! Holy crap!
Might as well ban me ... because you just fucked up so bad. you jsut pissed me off to no end. People like you is what makes this world so fucking bad and unbearable, because they THINK ... it's not an issue.
I tried not to make this post bad .. i deleted it several times ... but I just honestly can't believe you would fucking say that shit.
It's ok to bully? What the fuck is wrong with you? Are you a moron?
Like seriously WHAT? What the hell makes you think it's ok? What the hell ..?
Also .. btw you are WRONG ... you think bullying is just people saying negative things? NO HELL NO.
Bullying is plain and simple harassment and that is not FUCKING OK. It's not ok for someone to constantly make someone else life hell.
you just ... totally passed onto a subject you didn't want to get into. Because at this point .. I think your the most fucked up person I met in my entire life. The most ignorant piece of shit.
With mods like this .. who the fuck wants to be on a site like this?
As I said ban me .. because I really ... wont be able to stop now. The only way you will get me to stop is to either ... admit you are wrong and apologize or to ban me.
I am a very forgiving person when someone admits they are wrong. But as I said .. I doubt I would get that out of someone like you, who is so quick to say it's ok to bully.
*shakes head* This is why this shit never stops, because of peoples ignorance. It's just ridiculous.
Also .. when I said locked up .. I don't mean in a jail. I mean sort of like house arrest, but .. just not in a house. Sorry im not that fucked up. At least not as much as you are if you seriously think it's ok to bully.
Pfft .. thicker skin. That is the excuse that has been used for so long and guess what dumb ass ... IT DOESN'T WORK FOR EVERYONE!
Anyway .. bye everyone .. course this will probably be swept under a rug ... as if it never happened while I get banned. But good riddance.

I gotta say first off I'm not siding with anyway really but I agree with Brabbit as I dealt with that shit alot pretty much a combination of physical, mental and verbal bullying most of which had little to no action dealt from teachers or the principal most of the time it made it worse or they turned a blind eye to it

Woooooah woah woah woah. Alright there, rabbit, let's relax.
Firstly, I'm not banning anyone. Not over something as silly as this. X_X god, I have such a reputation for banning. >< Guys, I only ban people over serious offenses; starting a LOT of drama, purposefully flaming, ETC. And before I ban people, I usually have a chat with OTHER mods to make sure the individual should be banned. I just press the button, I don't really run the show.
Secondly; I'd like to take a moment to bring into the subject something. I've come to the conclusions that I have based on my own experiences with being bullied. Now, when I say bullied, I mean being into school and being held at knife point. I mean having my ass kicked every other day for no good reason at all by the same 10 or 12 kids in my school. When I say I've been bullied to a point of being suicidal at age 11, I mean it. I've had issues with bullies since I was in first grade. I'm not just talking out of my ass, I've just observed a lot is all.
So with that out of the way, I'd like to state that bullying as a whole is wrong. I'm not the sort of person to sit by and see it happen without doing anything about it; but I do just so happen to have a differing view on what to do about it than I suppose you do, Rabbit. That being said, that doesn't mean that I don't like you or anything, nor do I feel that it should mean you shouldn't like me, or at least not hate me!
Look, even Adams and Jefferson were bitter rivals (I think it was them... two of the founding fathers anyway), and had VASTLY different opinions on how the banks and government should be run, but neither of them held a personal vendetta against one another. So, I don't feel either of us should over something like this.
I'm not mad at you, I'm not gonna ban you. Alright? Alright.

Trust me man, you're not the only one. I'm still in hs due to a rough time during 7th grade causing me to be held back. I get bullied almost all the time, just because I lack to muscular mass of a normal male of my age and I'm smarter than most (I'm in all advanced classes now that my troubles are over), shouldn't mean that every one needs to pick on me. And since I'm from a redneck town in a redneck state (ky sucks at times) none of the teachers give a damn and I believe that some may even agree. But basically you just gotta keep on keepin on. I have an especially hard time with that because not only do they bully me, but they also bully my friend with aspergers making him depressed for the rest of the day. Try to ignore them and hopefully, eventually, they'll go away realizing that you're no fun

I more or less agree with liam on this one. I totally agree that when it gets to the point of serious psychological duress, there needs to be some accountability; however my personal experience is that none of these "bullies" are particularly bad people, and learning to deal with said adversity is crucial to one's own maturation. Why, I once had a lad who attacked me verbally for quite some time (this was a rather priveleged and caucasian school district) and at one point, having had enough, told the boy what an awful person he was outright. Turns out he'd lost his father but a year prior, and he was still rather shaken by the ordeal. I became good with friends with him (which had the added perk of getting me in with footbal team). My point is that had the minor abuse never occured, a valuable life lesson would never have been imparted upon me, nor would I have realized my own strength in dealing with said adversity. There is little one may learn from life without struggle.
It should however be noted, this was neither the first, nor the last time this would happen. The trick is never to submit to their will, but defy it so as make it impotent. Do not practice your victory in cruelty however, as that was never the point. I suppose I've gotten a tad esoteric in my answer though. To be more specific, people are accustomed at that age to attrition through subtelty, as in they are very passive aggressive. My strategy was simply to swing full aggressive, flinging fuck you's, insulting their intelligence and so on. Usually they'd be so taken aback by this approach, I'd either be able to acquire respect for going ape shit, or glean some melancholy reason for their abuse.
Also brabbit,
*you're
*I'm
and calm yourself just a tad. He was just presenting a view point and this is a safe place.
