(I think they were getting that after the clothes, but the diapers were an emergency item. Or were meant to be anyway, but heck we can say all the shopping is done to make it simpler :3)

After Knuckles got dressed, the human smiled and patted the boy's head. "Looks good, pretty covered up. Though seeing you like this makes me think you've never been much for wearing clothes"

Knuckles lifted up his arms to test how far the shirt might raise, as he didn't want the diaper to show at all. Then he tugged on and fidgeted in his new clothing "Heh, yeah I've never worn clothes before... Feels pretty weird but I guess I'll get used to it"
